CELTIC are set to rekindle their move for £8 million Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers wanted the 22-year-old last January and last summer but the clubs couldn’t agree on a fee

But with Kyogo Furuhashi’s £10m move to Rennes poised to go through in the next few days, Celtic will once again tempt Brondby with a new offer.

Kvistgaarden is also on the radar of Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt so Brondby want to hold out for top dollar.

But the player himself has told his club he plans to move on either in this window or in the summer, so the Danes’ hand will be forced.

Kyogo’s imminent move to France means Rodgers has to get an additional striker in before the end of the window

And with Celtic now safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, there is more money in the coffers on top of the fee banked for the Japanese striker.

Kvistgaarden, who has ten goals in 15 games this season already, was eager to move to Scotland before and is believed to still be keen on the switch now.

So Celtic are ready to ramp up their interest once again in the hope of getting a deal done at the third attempt

Selling Kyogo for £10m and bringing in Kvistgaarden, Jota and KT would be some window to be fair.

Seems advanced according to French reports.

The fact Scottish papers picking it up suggests there is something to it.

An attractive proposition knowing players will now have a chance of Champions League games to get us further in to the knockouts..

    Would be an excellent replacement..

Said in the kyogo thread but this may be the only chance we have to even possibly get him in and moving Kyogo on to do it and provide assurances over game time etc...it would all feel like the right time for me.

It's a risk. For sure. But one I think we need to take as Kyogo is away in 5 months regardless.

Some of his youtube videos he's constantly out wide. I know he's been able to play both out wide and up front but found one just from this season looks more consistently used up top and looking more deadly than before.

Kvistgaarden, Jota and KT would be unbelievable.

Add a midfielder to that and we’re laughing.

I’d rather bring this boy in and keep Kyogo till the summer, we’d still get around £8M for him in the summer and means this lad will have time to settle in. Can also then use either on the wing when needed.

As would I but I don't think that's on the cards. Firmly believe that Kyogo wants away now.

Think we'd still need another winger. Even a smaller purchase around 3-4m. For out right.

Really want Louie Barry or Orjasaeter tbh

Yeah, and if that midfielder is a DM, then in that case, all we’re looking for in summer is depth: namely one each of LB, RB and RW (left-footed) imo. Obvs also need to replace anyone leaving.

Aye in a perfect world and all that, also struggle to see why Kyogo would want to walk away from knockout stage of CL to go to lower table Rennes mid season.

Speaking of things developing fast, Celtic are ready to ramp up their hunt for Kyogo's replacement with move for Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, although Brondby's huge asking price could prove a stumbling block.
The 22-year-old has long been on the agenda at Parkhead and was heavily linked 12 months ago but a fee couldn't be agreed with Brondby at that time. The Hoops instead signed Adam Idah on loan, and made the move permanent, with Kvistgaarden going on the back burner. But his impressive scoring form has kept up and it looks as if the time may finally be right.

Shortly after Celtic's win over Young Boys, it emerged on Wednesday night that Kyogo is closing in on a move to Rennes with the Hoops set to bank £10m for the 30-year-old. Jota, it's claimed, could be heading in the other direction on loan, but isn't a direct replacement and that would leave Brendan Rodgers with cash to burn on another out and out No.9 to compete with Adam Idah and Johnny Kenny

The Scottish Sun are reporting that long-term target Kvistgaarden is the man they want – but Record Sport understand Brondby want €16m (£13.5m) for his services which could prove a major stumbling block. He's also being eyed by Eintracht Frankfurt, who just sold Omar Marmoush to Manchester City, so Brondby know they are in a strong bargaining position

It's likely Celtic would be willing to reinvest the bulk of any fee banked for Kyogo, particularly if it landed them a younger option with future sell-on value. But whether they'd be willing to go that high remains to be seen

Kvistgaarden is thought to be keen on the move and there are suggestions he could be ready to force it if Brondby don't want to sell. He's scored 14 goals in 22 appearances this season and would represent an astute signing

We went to 11m for Engels.

Just take the 10m for Kyogo and hand it to them with some bonuses up to say £14m.

I think I'd pay it at this point. Even if it means spending less this summer. I think the reality is if we had Kvistgaarden, Idah and Kenny as our three strikers we'd be pretty set for next season. If KT and Jota came in too this window, I don't think we'd need a lot in the summer.

If people are worried about annual spend limits, clubs can be creative with accounting etc so if we didn't spend it next summer it could easily match up.
