Don't think it'll be real we get. Bayern seems more likely.

Opta predicting us to finish 19th and get either Bayern or Brest.

This is where the heavyweights are, subpar performances won't cut it going forward....have to be totally switched on for what's to come

No point even trying to predict who we get in the playoffs, it’s gonna be so unpredictable!
If we lose or draw to Villa, we’ll drop down the table and could end up playing the likes of Real, Dortmund or Bayern.

Or we could beat Villa, move up the table, and still end up drawing PSG or City.

Obviously, moving up and getting the home advantage in the second leg would be huge, though!

Can we not still get an automatic spot on 15? It'd require crazy math, but possible, no?

Celtic earned another bonus payment from UEFA after their Champions League win over Young Boys.

Brendan Rodgers' side earned the win bonus after the league phase victory over the Swiss side at Celtic Park.

The triumph not only sealed qualification for the next stage of the European competition but also earned extra money for the club.

Celtic earned €2.1m for the win over Young Boys as a result of Champions League victory prize money. Clubs earn cash for wins and draws in the league phase of the competition.

Draws in the league phase of the competition see €700k bonuses paid to clubs

Celtic banked €18.62m before a ball was kicked simply for their involvement in the revamped league phase of the Champions League.

Beyond per-match win or draw fees, Celtic will also be guaranteed another payment from UEFA of €275k (£232k) minimum.

The club finishing 36th in the league phase will earn that figure with another €275k added for every position higher in the table after all eight matches.

    Celtic Champions League prize money
    League phase participation - €18.62m (€17.87m down-payment and €750k balance).

Performance bonuses - €2.1m per win, €700k per draw.

League ranking bonus - Each club will earn at least €275k for their league phase campaign - for every position above 36th, another €275k will be added to the bonus.

Furthermore, clubs ranked 1-8 at the end of the league phase will receive an additional €2m with clubs 9th to 16th pocketing €1m.

Progression bonuses - qualification for the knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
− qualification for the round of 16: €11m per club
− qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
− qualification for the semi-finals: €15m per club
− qualification for the final: €18.5m per club
    - competition winners receive an additional€6.5m

Technically we can still make the top 8, all we need to do is beat Villa, and hope that…
    (*inhale…)
    Barca beat Atalanta
    Leverkusen fail to beat Prague
    Bayern fail to beat Slovak
    Dortmund don’t beat Shakhtar
    Real and Brest draw
    Zagreb beat AC Milan
    Monaco don’t beat Inter
    Juve don’t beat Benfica
    Lille and Feyenoord draw
    and Salzburg beat A. Madrid
    (…exhale!)

If all that happens, we’d actually finish 5th.
So we’d need at least 7 or 8 of the above mentioned results to go our way to reach the top 8.

Be interesting to see what kinda pay out you’d get on that accumulator!:56:

Looking at upcoming fixtures, we finish ahead of Man City, at least one of PSG and Stuttgart, a good chance of coming ahead of Benfica or Juve. Club Brugge have to get a result away to City to go above us.

There are some really good teams below us.

Its going to be a complete lottery who we get in the next round. A single goal scored/conceded in any fixture on the final matchday will likely cause ripples through the table. The pack will shuffle and shuffle and then like the roll of dice we will know our opponents.

I think UEFA are definitely going to tweak this format in the years ahead, probably starting with making the play off round a seeded draw based on coefficients

Making the play offs seeded by coefficient wouldn't make sense. Imagine coming 9th and not being seeded because 5 years ago some * who comes 24th had a good run in the conference league.

I think the current model makes sense, as despite clubs already qualified so many clubs have loads to play for in the last game. Whether it's top 8, top 16 or higher in the top 16.

    Assuming this excludes TV money?

Those numbers look a little low. Surely all in with TV, gate receipts etc we are talking £40-50m?

It used to be 40m always spoken about for playing UCL and this season the numbers were meant to be bigger than ever.

Is the playoff round home and away or just one and done?

I believe it's not including TV money as isn't that dependent on each countries own TV deals?
