I don't think Kyogo is the type of person to push for a move or seems desperate to leave. Everyone was shouting about the Man City rumours in the summer and they were aload of complete nonsense probably started by his agency or the fact that simply he was on a potential list of scouting targets from City at some point. I don't believe City ever launched a formal bid. I also don't believe Kyogo is unhappy here. He may be looking for a new opportunity but if he'd wanted to leave I firmly believe he would have done so during the summer.

I don't see the business end of the season being a particularly great time to bed new players in, they don't have the luxury of being able to find their feet and take it game by game. With the nature of being a Celtic player in the league every game is must win, especially with 15 games to go. Have a bad game or two and they're on the bench, simple as that. For me January is a time to add to the squad and move on some fringe players. Not sell your best striker and try and replace one of your most important players in recent memory.

    Fair enough.

I'd disagree and say that if you change your agent then you clearly want something to change. He's a 30 year old man at the end of the day even if he appears happy and smiley like a wee guy. He will have his own mind and his own ambitions behind that wee face!

I firmly believe he wants away. I think there's been too many murmurs for over 12 months now for there to be nothing in it and the club agreeing to this (if true) mid way through a season would also add more weight to him pushing for it IMO.

I don't think he's been great for some time. His movement is his strong point always has been but he's struggled big time finishing wise this season and for me is on a downward trajectory. His finishing has massively frustrated me and I believe on the ball he's always been quite limited and in a Rodgers system it's being shown more regularly.

I get what you're saying about selling mid season. Really do. But I suppose what I'm saying is I'm not as devastated as I would have been say, 2 years ago, at this happening.

I also trust the club. For once.

I agree to an extent, he isn't blistering like Kuhn and Maeda.

He was fantastic for us despite that though, pretty decent in Europe too

I don’t think he’s the type to throw a hissy fit. His demeanour might be different now because he’s not sure what’s happening if he’s on the move or what, which we see with a lot of players. If it’s true that he did want away a year ago, I’ve never watched a game and thought what a lazy entitled b*ss that Kyogo is, taking the * cause he’s not got his big move. If anything the wee man is a tryer. He notoriously misses chances and has done since day one but you always know with Kyogo on the park there’s a chance you’ll get a goal either from him or through his movement.

I don’t believe for one minute he’d change in any way shape or form if he didn’t get a move in January. In fact I think he’d get his head down, get on with it and maybe enjoy himself without the speculation in the back of his mind. Add to that the idea of playing knock out football in CL and ambition to increase his goal tally for a summer move.

Majority of speculation linking him away has been down to how good he has been here overall though, rather than from Kyogo wanting away. Happens with any player who performs well here. I think he would have pushed for a move in the summer if he was wanting away, and can't see him being the one pushing for a move to Rennes of all places. The original link that all this speculation is coming from doesn't seem a reliable source in the slightest. Heard it all in the summer with Man City and there was no truth in it. I guess it remains to be seen if he does go or not but I won't at all be surprised to see him still here when the window shuts. But agreed if the club agrees to sell him now, it's absolutely because of pressure from Kyogo. I don't think £10M is worth it.

Definitely had his moments....i just feel someone with Kuhn like speed and workrate on the left and with that guile....would be better off for us now..

Improves us overall though but I'd like us to go a different route. Want that boy Orjasaeter in..

Mods: worth putting a ‘stay or go’ poll up as to how people feel about this? Might be interesting to see numbers.

Rennes are in advanced talks to sign Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi for around £10m.

Kyogo has been a key player for the Hoops since arriving in Scotland in the summer of 2021 under Ange Postecoglou.

However, his form for Celtic has not always been recognised by Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu, who has previously criticised the Scottish league.

It's believed Kyogo would welcome the chance to join a club in one of Europe's top five leagues, despite Celtic's progression to the Champions League knockouts

The 30-year-old, who had three goals disallowed against Young Boys on Wednesday night, has netted 85 times for the Hoops in all competitions.

Brendan Rodgers admitted last week he will not stand in anyone's way if their heart is set on leaving Celtic:

"I think the biggest thing is if a player doesn't want to be here, then go, and then it's at that point, then the club has to get the best possible deal. So I don't ever see the point of keeping someone who doesn't want to be here.

"But I think for us, it's all eventualities. That's what we prepare for, whether it's injuries, whether it's transfers. You always have to be ready and that's our message.

"But for him [Kyogo] at this moment in time, he's happy, he's working well, he's scoring goals and enjoying his football

People always look into something - 'he didn't celebrate enough or he didn't do this or he didn't do that'.

"I see him every day, I see his work, I see his intensity. And maybe he scores so much that he doesn't really have to celebrate madly all the time. Or maybe it was too cold. But he's just the same guy.

"But there's always speculation and we're not scared of the speculation and the gossip. So there'll always be wee bits and pieces around him

Just £500,000 more than an Adam Idah :99:.

Unless they have someone mega lined up, this shouldn't be entertained. Kyogo has been patchy this season but still tucked a few important ones away. Heck, he finished three tonight.

Screams of the board seeing a profit for 30 year old and nothing else.

Absolutely gutted if he goes at this stage. If it happens, I’m going to be thankful that we got to see him play in the hoops. A player that will be spoken about fondly by fans and the club forever.

Seems like it's much more to do with Kyogo wanting the move. Rodgers clearly wants to keep him.

It screams of a 30yo seeing his last chance at playing in a top 5 league, which is he does well in, will be pretty difficult to be overlooked for the Japan national team like he has been continually. Next year is a world cup year. 12-18 good months in France and he's on the plane, almost certainly.

I'd imagine that's a major dream of his after being snubbed 2 years ago, *, even we were gutted for him.

Sounds like he’s off tbh. That’s fine - on one condition: we absolutely have to have his replacement completely secured before he goes. Best of luck to him.

If Kyogo is pushing for it then fair enough. But I still wouldn't let him go unless we have a replacement who we are extremely confident in.

Taking Kyogo and all that comes with him (desire, energy, workrate, movement, chances, goals) out of the team mid season is a massive risk. Despite his faults he's a quality player and I really don't trust Rodgers in the transfer market these days.

Always thought he's one who could go if the offer was right due to his age.

Utter lunacy if he goes before a replacement is in the door though.

Celtic captain Calum McGregor said Wednesday he hoped Kyogo Furuhashi would stay at the Scottish club despite being linked with a move to Rennes in France.

Furuhashi, who turned 30 on Monday, helped Celtic reach the Champions League play-offs in a 1-0 win over Young Boys.

The Japanese striker had three goals disallowed in the game.

"He's a top player. Again, you see his quality, his movement, the way he sets the tone for the team," said McGregor of a player who has been at Parkhead since 2021.

"All our good players, we want to keep them for as long as we can and generally when there's speculation, then people have done well so we want that as well.

"It gets people talking about Celtic and the players that we've got so I'm sure the club will do everything they can to keep him because he's a top player and a top person as well.

Will be absolutely apoplectic if we sell him off for a measley 10m without a striker of equal ability in before hand.

Idah couldnt lace his boots ffs, and any replacement of REAL, comparable quality would run us 20m, at least. Not to mention, who, the name of *, except for us of course, is looking to lose their best striker in January.

I honestly think he doesnt like playing under Rodgers, and perhaps took his public dressing down (which was preposterous btw) hard.

But with Kyogo you wouldn't know. Consummate professional.
