Ghostdog - Way of the Samurai.

Really liked it, hadn't even heard much about it but we were looking for something we hadn't seen tonight and Forest Whitaker is generally always good. Good soundtrack by RZA as well.

Watched a couple of newer films recently which I didn't really like, Carry-on and Heretic for example, but really enjoyed this one from 1999.

Watched Heretic there after seeing some of you mention. Thought it was superb. Hugh Grant smashing it again.

Had never watched Interstellar til this eve, was randomly starting when I was having dinner. Wasn't planning on watching it but got pretty hooked. Bit of a headfuck at times but really good. Brilliant score as well, I think I knew it was Hans Zimmer before watching it but it was quality.

The Substance is brilliant, especially if you are into dark and tasteless horror comedy. Imagine a pretty decent sci fi premise mixed with Evil Dead levels of blood splat and ludicrous fun.

And I agree with Drakhan on the Wild Robot. Animation with a lot of heart

Watched a few films over weekend.

Snake Eyes, was alright. Always like Nic Cage films, had just never got round to it.

Thief, really enjoyed it. I was aware of it but again had never taken the time to watch, James Caan was brilliant.

I Saw the TV Glow. Watched this after reading Martin Scorsese praising it last year. Very weird. Soundtrack was good, but that's about it.

Don’t know if there is a sequel…….but just the way it ended, I think there will be.

Loved Abigail - one of my favs of 2024 anf probably the most fun I had in a cinema last year. Movies like these are why don't go checkling out trailers. And no, there is no Abigail 2 currently. @Hope N Ur Heart @Drakhan

Really, 2024 was such a brilliant year for horror overall. Usually it's a genre that I don't tend to find all that interesting, but this past year has produced a number of instant classics. Think because horror films don't usually require $200m budgets that studios are prepared to take a risk on a project or less inclined to intervene, insist to fitting formula or whatever the case may be. Genuinely one of the best ever years for any single genre there has been in a long, long time, including...
    • The Substance - best body horror in years & genuine contender for film of the year.
    • Nosforatu - Gothic horror at it's best. Acting, writing, direction, it's all there. Another film of the year contender.
    • Abigail - thankfully managed to avoid the trailer so never knew the twist. Most fun I had at the cinema in 2024.
    • Heretic - psychological and so well written and acted. Hugh Grant having an absolute ball - and so did I!
    • Alien: Romulus - the best Alien movie since 1986 Aliens, and up there with the 1979 original in terms of terror.
    • Late Night with the Devil - one of the best 'found footage' horror there has been in years.
    • Lisa Frankenstein - Feels like a 80's throwback and potentially cult B-movie horror comedy status
    • Maxxxine - I actually really dug this and even though its part of a trilogy is totally fina as a standalone movie, complete with the gruesome and the macabre.
    • Love Lies Bleeding - Another body horror to make the squirms in the chair.

Then there is the likes of Longlegs, A Quiet Place: Day One etc, that hold their own as well.
The first 4 above are in my overall Top 10 of 2024

Only reason I watched Abigail is wife was out at cinema with her friend to see Wicked.
Saw that in the theatre 2nd night of opening in London and trailer for the film left me feeling’nah, ain’t going to pay to see it’.
    Glad I stayed in.

I hate trailers anyhow, but the trend recently with things getting spoiled way in advance, is another aspect that is mirroring the * poor state of cinema now with where it was in the mid-60s, ie lost. The TL;DR culture has been transposed to TL;DW now. But that's beside the point.

I normally wait until just couple min before the film is due to start to go into the theatre, and if I am in early, stick my ears in and listen to a podcast to pay zero attention to what the tyrailers are. As I sit through virtually every movie that gets released at the cinema and am going to catch them all anyhow, so why want to spoil anything? In the case of Abigail, I am so, so glad that I didn't. So much fun.

How I had never seen Interstellar before is beyond me.

Watched last night and thought it was excellent.

I enjoyed The Substance as well. Great turn by Demi Moore and very brave to put herself forward as the aging star as that is what she essentially is. Plus the actress playing her younger self is smoking hot.

I wasn't totally enamoured with the ending however, I think it could have been handled a bit more tastefully.
