How many senior games had Tierney played when he got thrown in? We have to put faith in our young talents at some point otherwise what's the point in having them on the books?

We do, but he needs a better loan or to come through. I'd rather have him as second choice to Taylor as I'd trust Taylor to stay fit.
Just because it works with KT doesn't mean it will work with everyone. I also think he had an advantage of coming through when there was no threat to the league. Enabled managers to take the risk.

Not saying it will work with them all as it did KT but the point is the same that how do we really know they're gonna make it here without taking that risk? None of our players will get a loan to a higher level than us nor will they play anywhere under more pressure to win games than us so no matter the prior experience the true acid test is having a run in the team.

We gave it to Welsh and found out he wasn't good enough, McGregor took his opportunity as did Tierney, but we've never given anyone else from the youth setup a consistent run, and in Tierney's case it was pure luck. We need to create these pathways for these guys and now's the perfect opportunity at LB.

I think Barca will think twice about loaning players to us in the future.

If we’ve no chance signing him permanently then no issues with Barca recalling, think he’s brilliant technical player for his age and will be a very good player in future.

Bar a poor 45 mins vs the sheep he’s been a far more consistent performer than Taylor.

    Barcelona
will allow Alex Valle to join Como, if Celtic agree to terminate his loan deal with them.

The left-back is on a season-long loan at the Scottish champions and is likely to be needed for their upcoming Champions League games against Young Boys and Aston Villa.

If they thought he would come in and be our first team left back instantly then that's them deluded. He's gotten 18 games, including a cup final and 4 CL games. Playing under a huge expectation to win. Pretty good experience in my book.

Tbf, he came on against Brugge and set up the equaliser 2 minutes later.

Overall, I think Celtic/Ridgers have handled the whole thing poorly; they should’ve bought a proper LB from the off - but, of course, they didn’t want to pay out - and instead they end up with a decent young player who they can’t sign permanently. I wonder would Rodgers be so keen to persist with GT had we paid 7 or 8 million for Valle?

Brendan Rodgers says Alex Valle is still very much a Celtic player despite reports that his loan could be terminated.

The left-back joined the Parkhead side from Barcelona in the summer, but he has been heavily linked with a switch to Serie A side Como.

Any move to Italy would mean Valle's temporary spell in Glasgow's east end would be cut short, although boss Rodgers has cleared up any speculation: "He's still very much a player here," he said.

"There's absolutely no way that would happen [move to Como and resultant loan termination].

"He's in no rush to leave, however, if something was to change on that front, where he might not be getting the game time, I have to be honest and open with him

Reports of a potential departure for the 20-year-old have, in turn, fuelled speculation about Kieran Tierney's return to Celtic.

The Scotland international has been heavily linked back to his boyhood club. Such suggestions, along with the uncertainty over Greg Taylor's contract, mean the long-term left-back situation at Celtic is up in the air.

A big step backwards letting him go, even if KT comes in then Taylor left that would leave us very exposed in that position.

Would be keeping him until after the Young Boys game at minimum.

I've never been into this season long loan for no reason pish.
Unless there is an option to buy, where he has a reason to impress then the player is not going to go * for leather running himself into the ground for us. Why would he risk picking up a serious injury that would * up his chances with his parent club or ruin his next move?

We've had some successful loan players. But also some very pish ones.
The key is the option to buy....which separates successful loan deals from the pish ones

Regardless of how well he plays, he's going back to Barca at the end of the season anyway.
No point relying on a player that 100% will be gone end of May.
We need permanent signings and good ones.

I'm not sure Tierney is the answer either.
His injury record should be screaming "DONT SIGN ME..."..
But we'll see and I hope I'm wrong

From what I have seen/read, I am fairly confident the player has been enjoying his time at Celtic but as the player pushed for a loan last pre-season despite being counted on as part of the rotation advocated for a loan to play more (As he did the season before at Levante, also on loan)

I suspect a player with that sort of ambition, reacts to a FB reinforcement at Celtic as a signal that his minutes will only decrease until end of season when he returns to Barça - he needs more appearances/minutes to make a case for a more prominent role in Flick’s squad…or move to another club where he will start

Certainly that’s why a 2nd loan, is sought by the player…arguably a shrewd move to play under Cesc in the Serie A where his defensive attributes will be more showcased

No question he is a professional & prioritizing his development and his parent club are watching too obviously…For me, it’s been a pleasure watching him at Celtic - most I have watched your side play football in years. I have enjoyed it very much and developed some affection for several players - Liam, Maeda, Kühn, Kyogo, Reo & Engels

    Good luck this season :ynwacelti

Was brilliant away in Atalanta and done well when he come on against Brugge, getting an assist. Pretty sure he was fine when he come on against Leipzig and was miles better than Taylor when he come on at half time in Dortmund.
