What quality of player can we get that will agree to be a backup winger?

 

Well we shouldn’t be signing one specifically as back up, but that’s Yang’s current role within the squad and he’s not good enough as shown when we’ve needed him recently.

 

It’s because he’s so pish whenever he has a decent game by his standards he’ll be praised more for that.

A backup is obviously going to be worse than the two wingers above him. We can't afford a good player to be the 5. choice winger, nor would one sit on the bench quietly. Yang works hard and does not complain. His only flaw for a 5. choice winger is that he isn't home grown, but we refused to give Vata opportunities even though he was HG, so...

To me you'd use that if you're talking about a player that's no good enough trying his hardest to prove otherwise.

 

Forrest is someone who I’d consider to be decent back up, a guy who you can trust to play well in the business end of a campaign but isn’t someone you’d want to be relying on for large parts of a season. Yang just isn’t that at all, he’s capable of the odd good moment in games but has no end product to back it up.

 

You're right - Forrest wouldn't complain about being the 5. choice, but he has injury issues. Right now, he'd be 2. choice RW if he were fit. But Yang can only try hard and be fit enough to play, since others got injured.

We can absolutely find a better 1./2. choice LW, and that would help.

He's been here a year and a half. Settling in isn't the issue.

 

Maybe so, but he has not had many opportunities during that period, only the rare, occasional substitute appearance, and even then he has been played on his less favoured right side, when he clearly is more suited to the left wing. I think Brendan now sees he is better on the left, and he is getting his chance now with Forrest and Maeda out, and Palma not taking his chances.

Yang has shown gumption in his last few appearances, and has ended the goal drought.
Give the guy a break.

 

I think we need to get away from this mindset and also it’s a reason I would be for signing guys that can cover a couple of positions, like Kvistgaarden, Sanches etc.

We comfortably play enough games for a squad of 20 outfield players that all play enough to be satisfied throughout a season.

That would be two full backs either side four first team quality centre backs, five or six centre midfielders and 6 forward players. We can name a squad of 20 with the two goalkeepers for anyone game, how often do you not have an injury or two, you can make five subs, so in any one game you can play 15 outfield players.

We have played 3 games a week nearly every week since the end of November and for international players every week since October.

You could get by with slightly less if either we have a capable youth player as 4th choice centre back or 6th choice centre midfielder or as mentioned above you get a centre back that can cover full back, or both full back positions, a centre midfielder that can also play on the wing like Christie could, or a striker that can play wide.

However, we currently only have about 15 trusted first team players in our squad.

 

I agree with you but it’s not that easy at all. Look at Giakoumakis…he played a fair amount of games. But because he wasn’t that starting player it wasn’t enough for him.

very hard to keep a squad of that size happy and also be paid about the same. We always need some back up-low waged-players who can keep working hard to get appearances… but won’t kick up a fuss if they’re not

 

Just don't think he's good enough. That'll be why he hasn't been given many chances.

Not good enough. Ability to beat a man but then decision making is dreadful. Weak as * left foot and gets knocked off the ball too easy. If all players fit he would just about make the bench.

 

* love the guy but never ever should be anywhere near Celtic
