If only we had a better back up striker, he’s brilliant as an inside forward.

I really like him out wide, if Idah was in better form I'd keep him there, but we need him back at ST.

Hate that we are so wasteful with such an impactful player. Just let him float about and play another striker.

He is some player , best tonight. Think maybe Kenny needs a run in the middle as well if Kyogo continues in his current role. Though unlikely as Kuhn looked ok when he came on as sub

I actually didn’t realise he had such quick feet and the skills to go with it. Really like him out wide, so effective. Would like to see Kenny given a chance up top and kyogo kept out wide

He's always been quick over short distances tbf...

I personally don't see him as a winger in the way Kuhn is but I reckon giving him a bit more freedom to roam he could do some more damage and he's showed some promising signs of that.

I meant to stepovers and change of directions being quick feet! Didn’t know he had that in his locker cos usually we just see him getting on the end of stuff or coming short to link up and get forward. Good to see

What if a Japanese international (22 caps, 5 goals) landed in Brittany? This would be a strong possibility, since Stade Rennais is very interested in the profile of Kyogo Furuhashi (29 years old), the Celtic Glasgow striker.

According to our information, discussions have been underway for some time between the parties, while our colleagues at L'Equipe are saying that this case would not be unanimous at SRFC, particularly between coach Jorge Sampaoli (who appreciates this profile) and sporting director Frederic Massara.

The former Vissel Kobe player, who arrived at Celtic (Jota's former club, with whom he played) in 2021 for 4 million euros, was the top scorer in the Scottish championship in 2023 (23 goals). He has already won three league titles with Celtic

The Japanese also has more than 20 European Cup appearances, including 18 in the Champions League (3 goals). Are Celtic inclined to quickly part ways with their star striker?

The Scottish club still have two Champions League group stage matches to play in January (Young Boys Bern on 22 January, Aston Villa on 29 January), with the possibility of qualifying for the play-offs. However, Celtic cannot replace Furuhashi on the UEFA lists for these two matches. This season in the league, he has scored ten times in 21 matches.

This striker with an atypical profile, small in size (1.70 m), very mobile and hard-working, is rather axial (as a number 9 or even a support striker), but can also play on the wings. Furuhashi is under contract until 2027 at Celtic.

Kyogo has missed O'Reilly. In selling Matt we lost a big part of our attacking play last season, including assists and goals. More than that Kyogo lost a player that had a real connection with him going forward. We don't have that now. The midfield are not getting forward to support and go beyond the strikers as much as O'Reilly used to. It's had a negative impact on the little fella.

The Hoops have also told Rennes to forget about snapping up Kyogo while Brendan Rodgers’ side are battling it out in the Champions League.

Meanwhile the Hoops also won't entertain any talk of a Kyogo departure. Rennes have a strong interest in the front man – who turns 30 this week – but have been told there is no chance of a deal with crucial Champions League clashes with Young Boys and Aston Villa on the horizon.

Celts shot down suggestions the striker was heading to America after the MLS website mistakenly announced the Japanese attacker was heading Stateside. Atlanta United have held an interest in the frontman – who would carry a £10m plus price tag. Boss Rodgers admitted this week he wouldn’t stand in the way of any players who were eying an exit. But the Irishman sees Kyogo as a vital part of his squad – and a crucial man to have on board for the remaining two European clashes with the Hoops looking to seal their place in the knockout stages for the first time in more than a decade.

It could be interesting with Kyogo after the Aston Villa game is out of the way. There is still 2 days left in the window. No way its happening though unless we have a replacement lined up. I expect Kyogo to be here for the rest of this season but I think a summer departure seems very possible.

If it’s open til March I could see them going for it and the club taking it. By then our season will almost be over

I think he’ll leave this window, and I think it’s the right thing to do from the clubs perspective.

He’s a very food player, but hasn’t quite hit the heights he did under Postecoglu. Still our best striker by a mile and will need replaced, but at 30, with 18 months to go on his deal, with the league all but wrapped up, I think we’ll sell.

Maybe would depend if the huns are still in the Cup then or we are.

If we are still in the Cup and the huns are then the board probably wouldn't risk selling him and potentially being seen as the reason of not doing a Treble. If the huns are out the Cup, they probably would thinking Idah or Maeda would still get the job done against other teams to wrap it up.
