    I actually found out a bit about this. If you remember The Broons, they used to go to the but n Ben. Apparently "but" was outside and "Ben" was inside. So there you go.

    Apparently the Garngad has a noticeable different twang to their Glasgow accent. I've heard that before

    First heard of "bide" in Shetland and it threw me.

    Living in Stirling working in grangemouth and I use it in conversation and they all look at me like a right weird one.

    West end certainly have an accent, but like you, surprised someone could pick out an east end lad.
    I'd have assumed the west end snobby accent was the only unusual one within the Glasgow area

    A hen is a female bird, calling a girl Hen probably originated from that.

    My Mother was from the Garngad and spoke with a different accent from our neighbours when we were growing up in Easterhouse, it sounded a wee bit of a refined Glaswegian accent, apparently it evolved from the large Irish settlement in and around the Garngad, i don't know if it's died out but you could always tell by the way someone spoke if they were from that area.

    I was born in Drumchapel but grew up in Ruchill.

    I once asked somebody for a tumbler (glass) and they looked at me like I was from another planet :giggle1:
