If it's a straight loan deal it's need to be for 18 months, but even then I'd prefer we look elsewhere.

Loan deal doesn't make much sense from Villas perspective either.

Aston Villa are in talks with in-demand attacker Louie Barry over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa recalled the 21-year-old from his successful loan at Stockport earlier this month as they weigh up whether to keep him or loan him out to play at a higher level than League One.


Villa want to tie down Barry to a new contract before agreeing a potential loan deal for the second half of the season.

Multiple Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs, including league leaders Celtic, have registered their interest in signing the forward on loan.


Barry signed his current deal before heading out on a temporary basis to Stockport earlier in the season and could repeat the feat this month after his impressive form in the third tier.

He scored 16 goals in 24 games for Stockport in the first half of this season, including 15 in League One


The young striker has scored regular goals in the third and fourth divisions throughout his development

Villa have chosen to send him out to Ipswich, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford and Stockport since signing him in 2020 and are now weighing up his next step carefully.

Barry, 21, primarily played on the left wing for Stockport this season and also filled in at centre-forward when needed.


Villa have added to their forward ranks already this month with the signing of Netherlands international Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

Ex-Barcelona youngster Barry has made just one senior appearance for the Midlands giants, scoring in an FA Cup outing against Liverpool in 2021.

 

This would be a great signing...would be a coup!

 

If they won't let him leave for a permanent or loan to buy, no.

We don't need a scramble to replace him in the summer.

Great talent but if it’s just a loan then there’s no point imo. If we spent a decent amount we can get someone comparable in talent and develop our own player rather than Villas.

 

An 18 month loan deal would be fine. At the end of the day, if a player comes here and is successful at that age, we don’t get much longer out them anyway.

 

Usually don't mind a loan but we should be with the lead we have in the league and only a few more CL games I don't see the point.

Villa would prefer Barry to sign a new deal and then they would put him out on loan to the English Championship, where Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are all interested. Barry is a Villa fan but has spent most of his time there out on loan with the likes of Ipswich Town, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford City and Stockport
