Brendan Rodgers last night intimated he is keen to keep Kyogo Furuhashi despite interest from MLS side Atlanta United after the Japanese striker scored twice to push Celtic to a 4-1 away win at Ross County.

Furuhashi opened the scoring in Dingwall and then made it 2-1 with his 12th strike of the season with nine minutes left after Jordan White had levelled from the penalty spot.

A penalty from Arne Engels and a Luke McCowan effort in time added-on gave the scoreline the look of a hammering, but Furuhashi’s goals were vital and Rodgers paid tribute to his display at time-up.

Asked specifically if he wants to keep the player, the Parkhead manager replied: ‘Yeah, all the players,’ he said. ‘We want to improve the squad and develop the squad.

Even his goals today, that’s what he’s all about — great runs, getting round the box and getting his finish.’

With Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn missing, Furuhashi was also asked to come in from a right-sided position against County with Adam Idah operating as the central striker

‘I thought Kyogo worked really well,’ said Rodgers. ‘I think you have to remember he was a winger when he played in Japan, that’s what he was. He came into the club as a winger.

‘We have two goalscorers out of the team, trying to bring goalscorers in and find a way to be flexible to allow him to do that. I thought he and Arne and Ali managed that really well on that side of the pitch.’

Midfielder Arne Engels was also eager to state the importance of Furuhashi to the cause.

‘He’s really important for us,’ said the Belgian midfielder. ‘He’s doing all the dirty work that some people aren’t seeing, but we are, so we know how important he is for us.

You see it again today. He’s scored those two goals and he could maybe even score more but he’s really important for us.

‘Kyogo did amazing but he’s already been really, really good. He’s putting all the work in and he deserves those goals really.

Brendan may say he wants to keep Kyogo, and that may well be true.
But, If a £10M offer comes in for Kyogo, after the two Champions League games, I think the Celtic Board will bite.

Love him but don’t think he’s up there with Sutton, hartson, nakamura for me

Still think he's away in the summer tbh.

Will be 30 and although thats not old given his levels of fitness, we could still get £10m or so for him and I thjnk given our strategy we'd take that after 4 years.

Don't even think it's about the board, as much as the usual suspects will go tonto like we've sold or forced him out, he changed agent in the summer and we instantly saw that mental man city link being floated gettign his name out there. Kyogo might want a move and one last big payday if he can get it. He's been brilliant for us but nothing lasts forever, if we're going in for Kvistgaarden or anyone of a similar profile then we're not going to be * letting Kyogo go this window. The league is pretty much done.

Looked far better in that role than he has pretty much all season. Still missed a couple sitters but the two he scored he took brilliantly.

Best performance i’ve seen under Rodgers. Everything that makes Kyogo and more.

    Absolutely loved both his goals.

Don't get the apathy around Kyogo leaving.
Our best striker by a country mile, back ups look poor quality and some here would take £10M now for him?
Yes we should look to improve on him (like every position), but he shouldn't be going anywhere until someone much better is in and fully established.

I do worry about his body language however, he seems unsettled and frustrated and is not the same bubbly character as before.

To be fair, their keeper played a blinder.

I totally agree, if not this window. Really good player for us but if a bid is anywhere near the figure you mentioned we’ll take it and it will be great business.

He played well yesterday but the truth is he still doesn't really fit Rodgers style of play.

The role he played yesterday suited him but let's be honest. We arnt dropping Khun or Maeda to play him in that role going forward.

I think there's something in the Atlanta link, that story being put out last week by MLS was a mistake but I think there's more to it than them simply mixing up 2 random Japanese players. There's a chnace that deal is done and we've said he can go after the last 2 CL games

I still think it's a crime we signed umpteen Japanese players and not one has a chant from Scottish popstar/Asian-impersonator, Aneka.

It’s not revolutionary news but when you consider other less successful signings, it’s often taken for granted how superb Hatate, Maeda and Kyogo have all been since they joined us.

Yes their individual form can fluctuate at times, and all 3 lads have strengths and weaknesses, but their professionalism, or conduct, has never been in question throughout their time here.

Shame this line of recruitment appeared to vanish, the moment Ange walked out the door.

The wee man didn't look happy yesterday and didn't have his usual big smiley grin when he scored yesterday which is a wee bit worrying.
