Hope to * Rodgers indeed had that meeting. It's more important than any single player - the fact that planning seems to be on the minds of the important people.

He’s clearly on an upwards trajectory though. 10 goals and 4 assists in 15 league games this season. 4 goals in 7 games in the cups/Europe as well.

Definitely looks the type who, if we miss out, will end up playing for the likes of Bremen or Frankfurt and tear it up.

This season it's 15 in 22 with 5 assists. He's also only 22, so quite young.

The more I think about it, we should really show some ambition here.

    In:

    Kieran Tierney (free)
    Bazoumana Touré (£8m)
    Matias Kvistgaarden (£12m)
    Alvyn Sanches (£8m)

    Total = £28 million.

    Out:

    Alexandro Bernabei (£7m)
    Luis Palma (£5m)
    Stephen Welsh (£3m)
    Yang-Hyun Jun (£3m)
    Kyogo Furuhashi (£10m)

    Total = £28 million.

Note** I don't want us to get rid of Kyogo unless it's for Kvistgaarden or someone similar.

While the likes of Touré, Sanches and Kvistgaarden are young, they look like potentially brilliant players. We had interest in all three last Summer and I wish we would've pulled the trigger on at least one or two of them.

They've only gotten better since we were last linked. We need to act now before they are genuinely unattainable. Touré looks like a future star and Sanches offers the creativity (reminds me of O'Riley) we're sorely lacking at the minute. Like Kvistgaarden, he's versatile too and can cover multiple positions.

Those sort of incoming would show we mean proper business. We don't need to break even either, move on the dead wood for sure but even a net spend of 10m is fine if we bring in that level of quality . Money is there and the wage bill wouldn't change too much if we moved on enough of the dead wood ( we have plenty ).

After I made that post I looked up a few of those guys again - think we've missed the boat on Touré and Kvistgaarden now. It was the same with that Israeli kid a few years back Oscar Gloukh.

But these are the types of players I'm looking for. Young but obviously talented. Not projects, prospects. Could do with a few older heads in the team too (ala Mooy).

Kyogo has had very little impact in recent derby and Champions League games, being largely anonymous, and has missed an astonishing amount of sitters in these games. I would say Maeda has had much more of an impact in these games, with Kyogo being routinely bypassed and sussed out by opponents. He's a man down at the moment, and I wouldn't bet on him doing anything in the Ibrox or Young Boys games, his confidence is rock bottom.

Nostalgia is not going to cut in these games.

We need some decent additions in January.

BRENDAN RODGERS has made signing a new winger Celtic’s top January priority.

The Hoops boss was always looking to strengthen in the wide areas ahead of the window opening on Wednesday.

But James Forrest’s six-week lay-off, and Nicolas Kuhn’s knee issue, has seen Parkhead chiefs ramp up their search.

Celts have been linked with swoops for Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Mohammed Fuseini of Union Saint-Gilloise as they weigh up their options.

Brondby ace Mathias Kvistgaarden has also been on the Hoops’ radar in previous windows.

But SunSport understands Celtic have had scouts scouring Europe to compile a list of potential targets, Rodgers held a transfer summit with Dermot Desmond in Dublin last week, and is now poised to push the button on signings.

Forrest could be out until February, while Kuhn sat out the 0-0 draw at Dundee United and is a doubt for today’s Premiership visit of Motherwell.

Yang Hyun-jun started in Kuhn’s absence at Tannadice, but was replaced by Luis Palma afte making little impact.

The Honduran is on the radar of several MLS clubs and could leave in this window.

But injury issues in that area could yet delay Palma’s exit, with the Hoops facing a hectic run of nine domestic and European games in January.

Rodgers also hopes to strike a deal for Kieran Tierney in the window, with the Scotland star set to leave Arsenal.

SunSport revealed the Hoops are in pole position to bring the defender back to Parkhead, after the Gunners opted not to take up a year option on his contract.

Rodgers could also add another striker, although Johnny Kenny will get a chance to impress after his loan to Shamrock Rovers.

The Irish forward was outstanding in the Conference League, scoring five goals in their six matches

He will report back for training next week, and Rodgers is expected to take a close look at him.

Meanwhile, Alexandro Bernabei’s future is still unclear a Internacional hold talks over a deal.

The Hoops’ left-back was a standout on loan in Brazil, but there is also European interest in him

    We need three imo.

Even if Kyogo leaves we can manage without fir now with Idah and kenny, and goals from elsewhere in the side.

A winger, a defensive mid, and a left back are absolute PRIORITY.

The LB situation has been an absolute embarrassment of failures fir years now, and the gaping whole of a real DM has seen us exposed in Europe and even domestically in some games.

If Rodgers had a "summit" with Desmond then i suppose its encouraging.
But haven't we been told our majority shareholder is just that, a majority shareholder, and our transfer policy rolls on without his input?

A host to go out, the majority of ones already mentioned.

They're talking about £7m for Bernabei, that'd probably get Jota.

It can work what you’re saying, and honestly I think if I was making the decisions he’d be next to a guy like that in a 4231 with a proper CAM as well. Him more box to box, with a more defensive minded guy next to him looking after the ball inbetween midfield and defence.

That other more defensive one would need to be good on the ball and play a bit as well, which is a difficult prospect to lure here.

But my point there is more I don’t think Rodgers has any interest in not having him in the 6, because the level he plays that role at is exceptional, our fans love Calmac in general and still underrate just how high a level he plays at against any level of opposition.

The problem with that for me is for it to be at it’s best, the rest of the midfield need to do the job perfectly, Taylor as the inside fullback has to support perfectly. And then it works defensively. When that doesn’t happen he chases shadows.

    Winger bought outright
    Winger on loan
    Tierney
3rd striker if deal is right
    Centre back

    That will do!

Am I the only one who doesn't think we need a DM? We play possession-based football. We need a ball-playing DM, not an anchor man. McGregor is perfect. Engels can provide cover, if necessary. A change of position might work wonders for him since he's underperforming at CM. Has the physical tools to thrive at a deeper role.

Fully agree with this. I've never bought into the DM stuff, just seems to be the general consensus that it would solve our problems in Europe. Not for me.
