    No he wasn't.

O'Riley played every single league game when he arrived until the last league game of the season where he was benched vs Motherwell.

I think he's maybe referring to O'Rileys second season with us, where Mooy played a lot of games over him, I remember O'Riley was excellent during his first 6 months.

He needs to adapt to the physicality our game, the technique and ability is already there.

No doubt many within the media would love to run with the narrative that he's a big money flop, as supporters we should give the guy a chance, he's still young, i firmly believe he will prove to be a great signing for us.

O'Riley played in every single league game in his second season, 32 starts and 6 sub appearances.

I guess I'm mis-remembering, I do remember he wasn't as consistent during his second season, and I had Mooy ahead of him when he was fit (which wasn't that common).

Either way, it was O'Rileys third season where he flourished, not saying it'll take Engels that long, but more-so it does show it can take time for players to fully click.

I remember him being far from a guaranteed first team choice at somepoint as well.

I think it was his second season now I remember but not gonna bother checking as someone else seems to be sure he started most games.

Seems to be a different player to the one that started the first few games for us. I thought at one point he was going to get subbed off as he constantly gave the ball away and missed a glorious chance after Hatate played him through on goal. He did have a hand in Kuhns goal but he is going to have to get up to speed. No panic stations on him yet though. He is young, he has talent and as with others such as Kuhn, we know that Rodgers can get the best out of him.

When Bernardo and Khun first arrived, I did not see anything in them, so I guess we may just have to follow a similar bedding in period. Its just that some of the basic stuff he is so poor at.

Info is there if you want it, 32 starts and six times subbed on in his second season.

End of his first season he was in and out I think. Rogic preferred to him for the league decider at Ibrox. He came on and got injured right away I’m sure.

Strange as I seem to remember Mooy being preferred to him a lot in the second season as well, especially in the bigger games.

Hearts at Tynecastle in the Scottish cup quarters for example, potentially a champions league game or two?

Loads of examples of players arriving, being poor and then getting better. Kuhn being the most recent.

Engels could be the next but there’s no getting away from the fact he’s been woeful for several weeks.

Looks like he’s going to give the ball away every time he has it.

Rodgers said he signed him to add pace and power to the team but I don’t think he has an abundance of either.

100% his confidence is gone, you can see it in his face. Hopefully scoring a pressure pen will give him some confidence back and he can get back to what he showed first few games.

I think he has been getting and has had a better chance than a few of our other midfielders mate.
It gets harder to make a case for him keeping his place when Bernardo and McCowan are coming in and having more of an impact.
McCowan has more right than any or our midfielders to feel aggrieved.
The competition is what will improve our midfield, with or without Engels in it.

Did anyone else notice Engels celebrating Kuhns goal, he was lying on the turf but raised both arms in joy, loved it

Just needs to add a few bits to his game.. stronger on the ball is definitely one..

Winning his first trophy with us will do him good too.. great assist and composure for his pen.

Is it the £11M fee that give us confidence he will dramatically improve, or is it the promise we see on pitch?
Would that perception be different if he was a £1M signing from MK Dons?

My worry is the basics like ball control and simple passes seem hard for him right now.
Should he have that in his locker already by 21?

But tbh, our whole midfield 4 are struggling right now.

He definitely has that in his locker. He's just inconsistent.

We keep remembering the O'Riley that left. Not the one who joined.

100% Mate. To be dropped after the assists and goal was poor form from BR. Surely when a player is on it, he needs to start.
