Some really good results going our way tonight, Slovan, Young Boys, Bologna and Leipzig can't catch us anymore.

Salzburg, Strum Graz, Sparta Praha, Girona and Shaktar all have really difficult games as their remaining two and they all need to win both, they are all effectively out, their goal difference are all abysmal as well.

Red Star have 2 winnable games but they're very unlikely to catch us on GD, even then they aren't guaranteed to win both.

Zagreb have 8 points but they have Arsenal and AC Milan next and we're 5 goals ahead of them, would be willing to say they're out as well.

I'd say PSV are likely to get through, but it's far from guaranteed, they're away to Red Star and home to Liverpool, no guaranteed wins there.

Stuttgart and PSG could still catch us but if we win against Young Boys then only one of them could catch us.

We don't need anything against Aston Villa to qualify assuming we beat Young Boys, a win against Young Boys is more than enough, a draw would likely be enough as well, even at absolute worst, 9 points "might be enough", but obviously we should be aiming far higher than that.

It is good for us. Why would you want Red Star to get a point? We want them to falter as they’re below us.

Yeah and realistically anyone on 4 points won’t catch us even if we stayed on 9 points.

We need two teams of the 5 sitting below us from 7-8 points to not better us, assuming worst possible outcome being no wins in final 2 games.

Man City, PSV, Zagreb, PSG and Stuttgart.

One of those is likely Zagreb who play Arsenal and AC Milan and both will be targeting top 8 so need the wins.

That leaves 1 team left. if we go through them:

PSV away to Red star then home to Liverpool. Red Star are no mugs but you would think PSV could get a draw/win. Also Liverpool will be qualified by last game and could play weakened team. PSV have better goal different so likely they will finish above us.

Man City away to PSG then home to Brugge. I think ideally Man City beat PSG and Brugge. As they will defo beat Brugge last game.

PSG lose to Man City then face Stuttgart last game ideally that’s a draw or Stuttgart win. PSG then become that second team.

Stuttgart - away to Bratislava likely an easy win for them. Ideal then that they draw or beat PSG last game.

This assumes we pick up no remaining points. If we get at worst a draw against YB then I think we should go through.

    Strange days indeed.

A draw in that would surely have been the best result? Would have left Red star on 4 , 5 behind us with 2 to go and kept Milan within touching distance on 10.

Red Star losing means they very likely can't catch us on 9 points at worst case scenario.

Ac Milan have 2 relatively easy games as their remaining fixtures, we were unlikely to catch them.

What’s the script with the play off round? Can we be drawn against teams we played earlier? Dortmund, Atalanta, etc….if they finish outside the top 8?

Having looked at the teams below us remaining fixtures, realistically nobody from 27-36 can catch us. 1 more point would surely be enough but we should be winning against YB.

Yeah, some good results for us tonight.

I'd say everyone from 28th to 34th is now out. Stuttgart and PSG only ones who could potentially * it for us but even then they play each other.

Would be interesting if some stat mad * could give the scenarios in which we DONT go through now as it's seeming less likely.

Milan’s other two games will likely be two wins they are home to Girona and away to Dinamo Zagreb.

The results tonight weren’t far from what would have been expected, so doesn’t change much for us.

Red star could do us a favour next game and get something at home to PSV. We also want Bayern to take care of Feyenoord and Juve to avoid defeat in Brugge. Barca beating Benfica wouldn’t be bad either but as long as we win.

If we had won on of the last two games we would be talking about automatic last sixteen this is why I’m * at two draw as I expected to win one of them and take advantage of draw we got

Assuming worst case scenario and we lost our next two games, the following scenario would see us go out.
    • Stuttgart and PSG win at least one of their next 2 games, 2 draws wouldn't be enough for Stuttgart, no idea how it'd work with PSG as they have the same GD as us.
    • Zagreb either win one of their next 2 games or draw both
    • Man City/PSV draw or win one of their next 2 games.
Zagreb have Arsenal and AC Milan next, it's very unlikely they get two draws or a win imo, a draw itself wouldn't be enough to overtake us.

Wouldn't be relying on Man City going below us if we lost both, they have Brugge at home to finish off.

The teams below Stuttgart are all but out, would take a miracle for them to qualify, it's why Red Star losing late on was important for us, they have 2 winnable games to finish off and they could have finished above us on 10.

A draw against Young Boys would likely be enough to finish above Zagreb, but we'd need favours from elsewhere, ideally Club Brugge getting beat in their remaining two games (which is possible, Juventus and Man City away) PSV not getting more than a point in their last 2 (Red Star away and Liverpool at home, not impossible) or Stuttgart beating Slovan by a low scoreline then losing to PSG (anything less than 2-0 and they'd be out on GD)

Would ideally just take a win and avoid needing anything against Villa, we could qualify on 9 but it's unlikely looking at the above.

I’ll be honest, with how low some of the elite teams are in those playoff spots, the position doesn’t really matter that much to me. We could get Madrid even if we were near 9th.

Just secure it next game. The results today favour us but we should really be beating Young Boys, who are probably the second worst team in the tournament, at home. A point should even seal it for * sake.

Been a good campaign so far, could’ve been better but could have been much worse.
