I think the fact we're willing to give Johnny Kenny another chance at us shows that Cummings is all but gone.

Shame as I think he's a real big talent.

 

Kenny is nowhere near Celtic class..

Aye I think he'll only be here until the Summer, wouldn't shock me if he ends up back at Shamrock.

The likes of Hibs/Aberdeen should be all over him, but not at the right level for us imo.

 

Why's that?

 

Just by reading the general reports, find it really weird we've not offered him a new contract yet despite his form, only reason to not do that at this stage is we don't expect him to sign.

He's now scored 24 goals, unless I missed one before the Glasgow cup.

If that had been his tally for an entire season, I feel like we'd be pushing for him to be given a chance in the first team. But it's not even 2025 yet. A lot of his goals have been against youth champions league teams and Rangers, so it's not just down to the fact he is scoring in the lowland league.

Surely Rodgers will at least give him bench time soon.

Until he signs a new deal why bother?

Doak, Vata and Kelly have all used the "we need to see a path to the first team" line in recent seasons only use the fact they're now getting minutes for Celtic to get a deal down South. I mean the 3rd striker spot is there to be had, if he signs a new deal he'll get minutes but otherwise there's no point.

We really need to be doing a better job of keeping on top of youth player contracts so this doesn't continue to happen because it's getting ridiculous now. If we're not losing them at 16 then we're losing them at 18/19 because we aren't proactive enough with contract extensions. The youth players also need to be realistic with their demands mind you.

 

Watched him plenty enough times, he's done well , that's for sure . Won't be good enough for us I'm afraid, better for the lad to move on

 

They may have to be realistic but they also have to do what's best for their career.

Is third striker really an attractive prospect?

 

What decent club is gonna offer anything more than 3rd choice striker until they've proven themselves?

No ones saying that's the limit for him but you've got to start somewhere, and once he's proven himself a bit he'd get the wage increase at us no bother anyway as we seem to be on top of 1st team player contracts and are happy to dish out new deals even when they have plenty of time left on their deals.

 

Then you arrange loans to get them that experience. The youth obviously aren't seeing a good plan for their development. Or give the sub appearances.

Saying third choice striker is up for grabs is meaning, it's * because in the modern day where most teams play 1. Youre relying on one player to be injured before you get cameos.

 

That's the point though, we have been giving players chances. I mean Doak was essentially playing title deciding games as soon as he turned 16, Vata getting sub appearances at 17 and would've probably ended up getting a good chunk of game time between RW and ST the way the season turned out if he'd signed a new deal and Kelly was gettng games having just turned 18 in the most competitive area of our side.

All three threw it back in our faces and left the club for pennies. There can be no 'good plan for their development' when they're out of contract in 6 months and refuse to sign a new deal. And as already mentioned the past has shown us that giving them game time only leads to them using that to get a contract elsewhere.

 

Generally the good prospects have always been given a chance , Cummings is no better than Adam brooks , and he can't even get a game for caley in league 1, if he's even still there. Doak got a chance and would undoubtedly have played a major part in the squad going forward. the last prospect to leave ( that never got a chance) and actually amount to anything was probably hickey,
