We would need to start giving out lengthy , lucrative contracts to top prospects at ages 16 to stop them jumping ship at 18/19 after 2 year deals. It's a risk but it's the only way the youth academy will start producing Celtic first team players. Cummings is one of many who will go South for the quick money .

Pretty sure you can only offer under 18s a max 3 year deal, which is why the club needs to doing a far better job at keeping on top of contract extensions otherwise they'll continue to be coming towards the end of their deal at a time when most are just about ready to make the step up to 1st team training and appearances.

Actually mental we haven't learned this lesson already from the Vata and Kelly situations. Give them a competitive deal at 16 for 3 years then a new 3 year deal the following year with a wage increase, that way when they hit 18 they still have 2 years on their contract and then the coaches and players themselves can decide what's best for their futures without us constantly hitting a deadlock where they're in the last year of their deal and the club wants a commitment from the player and the player wants minutes before signing a deal. It's easy to see both sides but given Rodgers last season alone watched Kelly and Vata get gametime only to snub new deals and use the fact they're now getting games for Celtic to get a deal down South you can see why he's cautious of giving minutes out to guys who might've already decided they won't be here in 6 months.

Hopefully we're offering him a good deal and he agrees to stay because the space in the squad is there and a knock to either Kyogo/Idah suddenly means he's in contention to get a good amount of game time every match. Plus having Scales able to cover CB and LB means we can make room for a youth player on a long term deal on the bench even if both are fit.

Aye hope you’re right with Frame mate, agreed from what I’ve seen of him he looks easily good enough to make it here but at 19 whilst still young doesn’t really look any closer to a sniff of a chance here. The youth champions league is an excellent opportunity for these young boys to test themselves against some of the top players their age in Europe however the priority should be getting them out on a decent loan so we can properly judge where they’re at. Playing plumbers every weekend with 8 games against decent opposition isn’t doing them any favours imo.

Frame is at an age now where he needs to be playing first team football on a regular basis. You’re not telling me he couldn’t get a good amount of minutes at a team near the bottom of our league or at the very least a top end championship side.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but we should be doing what the Huns did, pull out of that lowland league and get games against similar level opposition organised utilising the loan market far smarter than we do. Until that happens these young lads coming through and actually making it will continue to be non-existent.

The jobs for the boys approach we take towards the academy is an absolute disgrace too and pre-historic. A club the size of ours with the amount of financial power we’ve got have no reason or excuse to neglect the academy the way we do by continually gifting jobs to ex-players as opposed to spending a bit more money and putting the right people in those positions.

If one were to be around as 3rd choice first team who's closest.....Cummings or Kenny?

Gotta be Kenny for me if choosing between them, scoring goals in a higher quality league and in Europe.

Age wise as well. I can't say I know much of either. Kenny seems to be doing well. Scoring in Europe etc. Just seen the paper with a short bit with him. Wanting get back and take a chance

Kenny ready for big Celtic shot

Johnny Kenny is ready for a big opportunity at Celtic.
The Daily Mail report that Brendan Rodgers is ready to give him the chance as the third striker behind Kyogo and Adam Idah.
His impressive form at Shamrock Rovers - including three Europa Conference League strikes - has caught the eye of his parent club.
He's now set to land a big chance to be that striker the Hoops boss craves to back up his top two options.

I wonder if us sending him there again is actually part of a longer term strategy. Let's face it the Austrian second division isn't going to be any worse than our own chamionship, so it's far better than having him in the lowland league, even if it's not as good as getting him a loan to the English championship or 1st division.

However if they get promoted with the aid of our loan players you are looking at getting loans sent to the Austrian 1st division next year, which is a decent standard, and they are currently sitting top of the division, so are looking in reasonable shape for that. So him going back there may be about more than just his development.

He's scored 18 goals in 59 appearances for Rovers who have been by far the best team in Ireland for 5 years(outspend everyone). They are not massively impressive stats. Yes he's scored a few in the conference league this season but that's a shocking standard. Scored against teams from Norn Iron, Cyprus and Austia I think.

Give him his go by all means but I'd be shocked if he makes it here.. fairplay if he does like Scales

Maybe and a fair point but he still should've been playing top flight football for a top 6 club in our league. He's easily good enough..

I'd agree he's probably good enough, but he's playing most games there, I'm not sure that would be the case if he went to a top 6 club here. I'd say regular game time at an ok level is better than sporadic game time at a better level at his age. Plus I could be wrong but I'd honestly expect them to have a more professional set up with regards sports science and coaching than the majority of our top flight clubs!

Mate he could easily be playing week in week out at a top flight club..

Hibs have Iredale. Raffle winner. Easily get in there..

Dundee United are 4th and have the likes of Kevin Holt still going on the left. Easily play there..

Dundee. Don't have any good left backs now..

    Could go on and on..

I'm not saying he couldn't be, but how often do you see 20 year olds on loan from other Scottish clubs (particularly when there is no chance of them signing permenantly) get regular game time over a clubs own players? It does happen, but not too often. The nature of our league and the focus on getting top 6 means that most teams go for experience more often than not, to the detriment of young players. If it's not even their young player then it's more likely to happen.

Don't think we should call him back to play minimal minutes. Maeda is the 3rd choice striker. He knows the position from the Japan NT. If anything, we should find a LW instead of Palma who would battle it out with Maeda for first choice.

Do they clubs want to develop our youngsters as well though? That’s something often ignored when we handpick teams we should loan certain players to. Are they developing under a manager we trust to do it properly? I’ve been screaming for loans in Scotland to be better utilised for years or down to England if we want any sort of fee for them, but clubs and fans resent us in our league, we tend to forget that aspect.
