Tomoki Iwata

I really liked him and thought he had something different for us, a midfielder naturally defensive minded who had the ability to go forward. Every other midfielder I think are naturally attacking, who defend 2nd.

But for one reason or another any time Iwata was putting together a run, he’d not be available for one reason or another.

Rodgers hinted at injuries, fitness not being available but a lot of those times he was never included in the injury updates or unavailable players due to injury.

Weirder thing still for me was when chips were down last season, when we had to look at the bench and bring on a guy that will absolutely do what Rodgers wanted, it was invariably Iwata. But when it wasn’t that until forced to play him, even after some impressive cameos, he wouldn’t. It confused me.

Glad he seems to be thriving down there. Wonder what sort of fee was involved, we’ve not even hinted at it? Kinda hoping its a sell on only.

Iwata's most obvious flaw was getting caught in possession too often, suggesting a lack of awareness. I'd make an educated guess at that being a problem for Rodgers.

 

My bad it was the Bolton game last week I seen the goal, wee bit behind the time just back from holiday

 

Just scored again, that's him now got 6 goals in 13 starts, some return for a defensive midfielder

 

Some player. Wasn’t given a proper chance here. The odd few games he did play he was reasonably solid. Whether he was good enough to nail down a more regular place here who knows but it would’ve been difficult for him.

 

Agree, at very most should have loaned him out instead of moving him on permanently

 

I think people forget he is playing in league 1, I liked him but he wasn't good enough for us

 

That's a similar level as our league tbf

 

Think you forget SPFL teams sign non-league and League 2 players quite often.

 

Always liked him. Maybe not the answer here, but he brought some stability to the mf when we had players missing last season.

 

Lighting it up but there was something missing from his game for us..

He wanted far too much time on the ball..

He was bang average let's not kid ourselves.

He was always in great positions but slow as * on the ball , where this fascination of shooting of his has come from I'll never know.

I didn’t realise he was transferred. I thought it was a loan.

We should always try to loan to the championship/league one because even our fringe players tend to do well there given the step down, but there’s plenty of money flying around.

 

While that us mostly true there is a reason we don't sign players from that league, MOR aside

 

Aye but none of those teams play the champions league, which is where our eyes should be, not the rest of our league. We would fall behind the huns if that was our level
