Playing like someone who's feeling the pressure and trying just too hard.
Would like to see him used selectively, maybe come of bench as impact player for a few games, get his confidence up.

Bernardo should to start more SPL games, Engels will still start in UCL regardless.

Too positionally erratic. Trying to be everywhere and found absent at times.
Wouldnt do him harm to study MoR’s game and movement and when he decides to hold his position and when he decides to run into pockets of space.

Still maintain we don't know what kind of player he is yet, nor does he.

It's very difficult to pinpoint his strengths yet.

Disagree. Places should be awarded on merit regardless of the competition.
Bernardo is a cracking player and a great prospect in his own right and if he earns a place in the SPL he deserves a place in the european side.

To be fair, Rodgers has pretty much used him in the same role so far. Its up to Engels, BR and the coaching staff to work on his positional intelligence and develop his understanding of what is expected of him. I do think he will come good but he is all over the place atm.

Honestly think it's just a case of managing his game time better, he's not used to playing as many games as he has done so far and still looked decent/good in Europe and most of our domestic home games.

Obvious solution is to play Bernardo and/or McCowan in domestic away games until he's settled in a bit more and gets used to the heavy schedule/expectations. In the meantime we've got two cracking players on the bench who are probably better suited to domestic away matches atm. No reason why we couldn't have started McCowan at Killie where he has a good record then started Bernardo last night given Engels was off the back of two starts for Belgium.

There is a real player there. Think his understanding with the other players is a bit that will come over time, he seems not to be in synch with them when doing quick passing movements. Bernard is way better at that aspect of the game at the moment.
But remember this is Bernardos second season so Engels just needs a bit of time.

I don't think his fee should be considered tbh.

We are moving up in the football world. £11 million is what you pay for a decent midfielder. It doesn't mean he needs to be the best in the team. We've got players worth £25-£30 million.

Engles will be some player. He just needs some time and he will get it.

He's young and still settling in, also hes only after playing two back to back international games.. give him time, and we are romping the league so we have the time to be patient with new players! There is a good player in there... HH

Only our support could have doubts about a 21 year old playing international football for Belgium

    The bhoy will come good

Good point. We have added real depth in most key areas and Engels is a part of that. With our finances that should continue to evolve

He's taking an awful long time to settle, and he has certainly not hit the ground running, and he is not physically commanding games in the way he should be. Some players are just are not good fits for a club, and if their game is all about them, rather than the good of the overall team, then it can cause issues in the dressing room. I am not sure what is going on in Engel's case, but he does not look or play like an £11M player.

He is quality with set pieces and crossing and passing and shooting with good vision and awareness of whats going around him. But looks slow off the mark to run and stiff on the turn, similar physically really to like Idah for me compared to O'Riley or Bernardo who are a bit more nimble and slick on the ball in tigher areas or at beating men or moving round about guys.

Every chance he may come good but the facts are that he’s had a lot of poor/bang average games since he joined and people are rightly calling that out as a bit of a concern especially when you have Bernardo looking the part nearly every time he plays & McCowan sitting on the bench as well.

The fact he’s being selected for Belgium at such a young age is v.impressive but was Rafael Scheidt not a Brazil international when we signed him?! An extreme example perhaps but we can/should only judge him on his performances for us not the fact he’s playing for Belgium. He needs to start showing us (on a more consistent basis) why he’s being selected for Belgium or spend some time on the bench until he sorts himself out.

Puts in a good corner and some really nice balls in behind/down the line and links well at times. To say he is quality at shooting is very generous based on the evidence past 3 months .

No he isn't :56:If you said this closer to the end of the season I'd agree, but we're not even half way through.

Even then, it's not like he's poor since he joined, he was excellent up until the Dortmund game.

He needs a few games on the bench, but as a support we are abysmal at giving players time.

I think the same people posting negatives in here need to take a look at the first 40+ or so pages of the Kuhn thread.

He'll finish this season well over 20 goal contributions easy.

Not much more you could ask for from a debut season of a young lad moving to Glasgow to play at CM.

Christ. We could sign a striker who's the same age, from the same league, same nationality and for the same amount and if he finishes the season on 20 goal contributions we'd be going mental over just how far they could go next season.

I've got no concerns Engels form is going to really take off before this season ends

That's a reasonable point but it's also not entirely unheard of to look at how a player is playing and offer an opinion too.

Saying he's probably not deserving of starting ahead of other players based on their performance isn't really a negative opinion I'd also say.
