I come from a family where a few have been saved by AA, luckily I didn’t get the alcohol addictive gene so I don’t really see point of alcohol free, I love a bottle of Glenlivet at Hogmanay and for my birthday in July, only other times I drink now is a pint of heavy on arrival at Celtic Social Club after a five hour drive from leeds for games and when I’m out for food. Our Wim The Tim CSC sets of for games really early so members can get properly pished before and after games, definitely takes it out of me now I’m not young but I’ve never had hangovers so occasionally over indulge

I was pretty much off alcohol for the duration of my gf’s pregnancy, mainly to save money.

There were a few events in that period where I showed my face and had a few zeros before leaving. Same price as an actual pint but the difference for me was if I had actual alcoholic ones then I would be more likely to stay and keep drinking, whereas after a few zeros I was pretty happy to head home.

Also just think it’s nice to have a break from things every now and then, makes you appreciate them more.

Alcohol is the deadliest drug there is, I know I used it to self medicate with it when I got home from Afghanistan, thankfully I am coming up on 7 years sober

Will have them every so often on a Friday after work, just at home. Has the benefit of being refreshing and also breaking up the monotony of constantly drinking pints of water (I don’t drink juice).

    Bump

Today marks 56 days without a beer, that’s probably been the longest time I’ve been off it
    In my life.

been into red wine instead, which is absolutely gorgeous in fact starting to love it ,

Always drank beer like there’s no tomorrow.

Sipping wine and enjoying the moment is the way to go.

I used to hate the taste of beer and only drank it cause everyone else was on pints when we were out, but I actually really enjoy the taste now and don't get drunk much these days so I do enjoy them.

Yeah once you give it up you realise how it’s just mostly a time sink. I gave it up myself because I watched how it affects people and thought better than to get stuck in that loop of spending money to feel terrible the next day. Getting on the closer side to 6 years abstinence for me.

I just had 5 days off there. Had a drink in the end as I was hallucinating. My walking boots turned into 2 strange brown animals & started dancing.

    Limbs were twitching.

A brain fog that makes my brain injury look like a holiday in the sun.

Never had this happen before. My drinking changed during the pandemic to almost every night.

Think low alcohol is the way forward.

Good to see people try to cut back or give up the booze entirely. Scotland and Ireland have a very casual problem with alcoholism that seems to be socially acceptable - as well as the more blatant, less acceptable version.

Think the social stigma of not drinking has all but evaporated now tbh. Actually reckon it’s seen as cooler to not be on it.

Haven't been pished in over 20 yrs, very rarely will I have a drink of anything alcoholic. Don't miss it one bit and certainly don't miss my head feeling like a nuclear winter the next day.

You were going through Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome, it's not fun and some of the symptoms can be deadly
