Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he does not want Celtic to stand still in the recruitment department.

The manager was pleased with his scouting staff across the busy summer transfer window where the likes of Arne Engels, Adam Idah, Alex Valle and others arrived.

Big money was spent by the club – including a record fee for Belgian Engels – and it has thus far paid dividends as the Hoops lead the Scottish Premiership and have been competitive in the Champions League.

That Rodgers‘ troops are still seriously in the hunt for a spot in the knockout playoff in Europe’s elite competition is further proof of that.

But Rodgers won’t want his staff to rest on their laurels

The January window is fast approaching and already there are a handful of names on the shortlist with a view to potentially moving to sign players in two months’ time.

One man who has Parkhead as an interesting option is Burnley’s Josh Brownhill.

67 Hail Hail understands the midfielder has been tentatively spoken about within the Celtic Park corridors as they look to bolster their options

Brownhill has a number of other clubs interested and potential suitors from Italy and Saudi Arabia. And it’s understood there are likely to be more sizeable financial packages on the table from elsewhere.

The combative Englishman can sign a pre-contract away from Turf Moore in January with his deal with the Clarets expiring in the summer of 2025.

That would represent strong value for money for the Hoops with the experienced Brownhill having managed more than 180 appearances for Burnley since joining for £9million in 2020

Before that he was a stalwart for Bristol City where he also played more than 150 games

Brownhill joined Burnley from City under Sean Dyche and established himself as a top player there while also working with Premier League giant Vincent Kompany.

Before the Belgian moved to Bayern Munich he had made sure Brownhill had his one year contract extension triggered.

And he explained that the 28-year-old had become “very important” to the Premier League side before their relegation.

Kompany, back in May 2024, said: “We have a player here that is under contract who has been very important for us, so rumours…we’re used to rumours.”

Don't see where he fits in. We were linked with Cullen as well in the summer and nothing was in that

He's a good player, doing well for a Burnley side that's 4th, but would be surprised if he left them if they got promoted again.

Guessing he would maybe be viewed as a replacement for Hatate if he leaves in the summer.

Very random link, a 29 year old for big money and on big money for the strongest area of our squad.

Like the idea of signing more ready made players, but don't see the need for a midfielder just now.

    McGregor, hatate and Engels.
    Bernardo and Mccowan.

There isn't actually space for an established player that wouldn't in turn * the development of others now.

Add to that, we all want Lennon Miller as well.

I assume Hatate is earmarked as the likely one to leave in the next window or two, which would free up a space.
But by the time he leaves then Bernardo or Engels will have stepped in to a firm starting position and Mccowan is great cover. The void left would be ideal for a development player, not an "older" head.

    In the same boat.

I don't see the point of this signing considering it's an area of the park where we don't need 'ready made' players in as we already have that and in those waiting in the wings.

If he was a left back, it'd be a different story.
