Maybe not even second best. I'd have Maeda above him....

Since there's been a bit of a pile on recently towards him may as well add my own

Thought his mindset towards the end of the Leipzig game was poor and a bit of a red flag, hinted towards an inferior mentality, we were as comfortable as we could ever hope to be during that second half, players were having fun out there, Leipzig players gave up long before the final whistle and were desperate for the ref to put them out of their misery, yet with a two goal cushion and about 2-3 mins left of added time, he ran to the corner flag to waste time, I said to myself * are you doing, just play and push for another goal to really rub it in

Don't get me wrong had we only been winning 2-1 under heavy pressure then by all means take it to the corner and wind down the clock, but with a 2 goal cushion and being completely dominant with only a few mins left, thought that was a weak mentality he showed to do that

Taking it to the corner gave us a higher chance of seeing out the win. Very marginal stuff but I hate when players just swing a ball into the box in those situations. What happens if Leipzig keeper catches it, launches a counter and they make it 3-2? We are sweating it for the final minute of the game.

As for the Idah debate more generally.. I’ve been disappointed with what I’ve seen from him this season. His touch has been shocking at times, whereas last season when he first signed I was highly impressed with his first touch and general footballing ability on the ball. He seems to have less fire in the belly or something this season, but maybe that’s unfair.

Not writing him off or calling it a bad signing but I want to see more from him.

Well Idah was the only player to do it, not one other player took it to the corner flag in an effort to run the clock down

If he did that it would be under instructions from the manager, hold the ball up etc..

Of the things we can criticise Idah for, this is a non issue.

Like when he * it last season at ibrokes lost the ball and they scored a last minute equaliser.
Yeah no problem holding the ball especially since we don't have the best track record at seeing out games in champions league

Agree on the fee, but I think he is actually a very, very good player.
But his attitude and lackadaisical, 'whatever' approach to his football is what's holding him back.
Not only here but at Norwich too.
When he was playing for a deal last season, highly motivated and occasionally brilliant.
Now that he has the deal, not so much - 90% at best, doesn't mind if he misses or takes bad touch.

He has to want it really badly and much more than he shows or he'll end up as one of those 'coulda, shoulda, but didnae' players.
Brendan really has his hands full to get best from him.

Grand old team to play for
We've moaned for years about being naive and poor game management. Running down the clock was a perfectly good choice in that situation. If they managed to nick a goal near the end, it could have been a very nervy end to the game. I was happy to see him do it. We controlled that second half, and running out the clock was just another form of control.

Can't really say one way or the other yet.. still very early into his permanent deal, with Kyogo the no1 and Idah not having a run of starts.

He proved his worth last season and we know what he can give us. He has been a disappointment in some of the games he's started though and needs to do more..

Lot of body language experts and psychologists on this thread these days.

Perhaps giving a guy lacking match sharpness 20 mins each week then throwing him randomly from the start once every 6 weeks isn't the best way to get best out of him.

For all the criticism he's had hew still level on goals with our main striker who despite offering very little the season seems completely immune from criticism.

Kyogo played a game the other week were he had 10 touches, maybe if Idah was less involved in games and only got 10 touches of the ball he'd get less scrutiny on him too.

He doesn't seem agile enough to drop deeper and wide to create space for others in the way Kane-esque big strikers do. And he doesn't seem to get in enough good positions to be a poacher. Nor does he seem powerful enough to ragdoll defenders and create gaps that way like Sutton and Hartson did.

He will continue to score goals because that comes with the territory playing up front for celtic in spfl games. But I've never seen anything in Idah really. Obviously Rodgers and many others see and understand players far more than I do, but I just don't get it.

The only reason to be optimistic is Kuhn showing how such a drastic turnaround is possible. So not giving up on him completely but he's absolutely miles off where a 9m striker should be in my opinion
