I thought it might be he seems to be the biggest agent over there for young Norwegian players.

At the end of the day it was a while ago and if the deal seems right, we still done fine for Ajer’s career at the end of the day. I think Hjelde would have been better staying with us too, given the state of our squad at that time he could have been starting games in Ange’s first season.

All hypothetical (no even linked) but no the best really for a market that really appeals to us if the biggest agent there for top talent has had bad dealings with us..

Yeah it’s not ideal. I think Hjelde going to Leeds was a bad move for him, he had been out at Ross County playing regularly and done well, John Hughes was his manager and really talked him up. He could have continued to play first team football either for us given our squad or for another premiership team on loan for another season but he ended up going to Leeds and playing academy football really.

Not getting a regular game at Sunderland now either.

 

Going to need to get looking at left backs. Might need one in January and another in the summer.

 

Absolutely, even if the rumours of Valle being recalled are pish, we need to prepare for next seasons CL Qualifier..

 

As a suggestion and someone we were linked with previously Archie Brown of Gent. Still young at 22 but is a unit of a guy, 6’3, strong and quick.

He also has good dribbling ability and is one of those full backs that can occupy the full side of the pitch.

Given he is English too he would attract interest from EPL if he does well for us. He wouldn’t be cheap but has a lot to like about him and could easily multiply his value.

 

Taking the videos with a grain of salt but he looks good on the ball and has that pace and power we are lacking at LB.

I’m trying to work out what his weaknesses are because he looks to good to be true, I’d say he looks perfect for us in those videos.

 

Weakness I would say is inexperience at a good level. He turned 22 at the end of May so is still young.

He has 63 games between the Belgian and Swiss top leagues, Europa Conference League, qualifiers and cup competitions. Also another 35 in the Swiss 2nd tier. So not bad for being 22 but I would say this season is likely to be his real breakthrough one.

Knowing when to release the ball is the one thing from watching the videos of him that needs work but would likely come with coaching and more experience. He does tend to carry the ball rather than pass but his passing accuracy could be higher. Again though I think this is more the role he plays for his team. They tend to have him cover the full left hand side of the team himself.

His tackling and ground duels look decent if not spectacular from his stats as you would expect at 6’3 out wide his aerial duels performance is strong.

One thing is I think he would cost a decent fee they paid €4m so you might be looking at double that now if not more. If we get something like the money we want for Bernabei, we could do worse than spend that money on a permanent left back that could make a difference. Gent are a selling club so a deal could be done at the right price.

 

The type of player that has all the physical attributes, his dribbling ability looks great, if Brendan could work his magic and get his passing game to our levels, we’d have an unbelievable back 4.

He’s the type that could definitely make us press resistant at the next level and with the pace across the team we’d be rapid on the break with the ability to cover if we lose the ball.

 

Yeah I think that sort of profile of left back would be a good pick up you would suddenly be looking at having 4 physical defenders in there but still have attacking threat from both full backs. It would also help in both boxes at set pieces.

Another player I would go for and hopefully with Paul Tisdales lower league knowledge we will be keeping tabs is Kwame Poku of Peterborough.

He’s a left footed right winger not dissimilar to Kuhn, maybe not quite as fast but perhaps has a better strike on him. He has 10 goals and 5 assists in 15 games this season. He can also play on the left but seems to excel like Kuhn coming in on his left from the right but he is capable of going to the byline or feeding an overlapping right back like Johnston has been doing for us.

His deal is up in June so would be available for cross border compensation or offer a fee in January. He turned 23 in August so best years are still ahead of him and he would be a good addition to the wingers we have. He is older than O’Riley but looks like he could make the step up. Get him in January and he can provide cover for Kuhn and Maeda with the view to really kicking on next season.
