Must be. What have they ever done in world football. Certainly not up to the standard of Scotland.

Mad to think, the way things could unfold, we could end up with Valle and Bernie as our two left back options next season.

Just saw that article, surely we aren't asking for €10m at all?

You'd imagine recoup what we bought him for, or as close to it, would be fine?

That sounds like maybe a PR stunt in Brazil where their club says the fee is so high, then gets a deal done for half of that and they look like negotiating heroes and get a €10m rated player.

Being serious though I don’t think revisionism about Bernabei is helpful. Clearly wasn’t good enough for two managers here.

Tbf going by ILTC's posts he's picking up the highest ratings of any player in Brazil, that's gonna attract interest from not only the biggest clubs in Brazil but probably the likes of the MLS, Portugal and maybe even clubs in Italy and Spain.

Norwich fans probably thought we were mental to spend as much as we did on Idah but the fact is he perrformed for us massively last season and is doing the business for us now.

Edit: Sadiq another example, was hopeless in Scotland but went for something crazy like 20m+ after a good loan spell not long later.

You could see he had talent on the ball, but never got to grips with the way he was being asked to play here. Sometimes even wondered if he understood what he was being asked to do.

It's a difference of style, he was never suited to being an inverted wing back, looks to be a much more traditional full back when I've seen clips and he's storming at that.

Good player, wrong fit for what we wanted

Being unable to defend is an issue for a traditional full back.

Sounds like we are trying to Adam Idah them if there is any truth in it. Player goes on loan that parent club are willing to lose, he has a stormer and parent club take advantage of no buy option.

Think the league is just a bit gung ho so getting caught out of position is more accepted, as long as you contribute in an attacking sense.

Reports in South America have indicated Alexandro Bernabei could be in line for a sensational Argentina call-up – and the player says it would be a 'dream' realised

The Celtic left-back was farmed out to Brazilian club Internacional last winter after failing to force his way in under Brendan Rodgers. And after waiting patiently for his chance, he's since resurrected his career and then some, rapidly earning a reputation as one of the top defenders in the Brazilian Serie A.

He has helped the Porto Alegre club reach fifth place in their league and it was even reported in South America last week that Celtic were asking for a fee of £8million to make the loan move permanent in January – a fee which seems steep, but less so by the week as his incredible form continues

He's been tipped in his homeland for a surprise call-up to the world champions' squad for their World Cup double-header against Paraguay and Peru this month. And Bernabei - who has played for Argentina Under 23s previously - is hoping he's done enough to impress boss Lionel Scaloni

He said: "We are an incredible team - World Cup holders and Copa America champions - so of course I know it will be incredibly difficult for me to be called up for the squad. But nobody tells me that I can't aim for that

I certainly hope with my recent form that it will be my turn soon. It is a dream that I have pending and I am going to work as hard as possible for myself. If it happens, it happens.

I think that in Brazil and Argentina, there are very good full-backs. It's said that Brazil is a country of full backs so being praised is important for me. Here in Brazil I am playing every three days or so and that's a real challenge and it is very demanding. But I am very happy with my form

Internacional have vowed that they will do everything in their power to retain the services of Celtic loan star Alexandro Bernabei - despite the reported £8million price tag slapped on the full back by the Hoops.

Bernabei, 24, was brought to Parkhead by Ange Postecoglou for £3.8million from Argentine club Lanus in July 2022 and made 19 appearances in all competitions in his first season. However the former Argentina U23 international fell out of favour under the Aussie's successor Brendan Rodgers, and returned to south America in a loan deal until the end of 2024 back in March

The wing-back has recaptured his form in Brazil with Internacional, registering three goals and three assists in 20 matches, with some reports in his homeland tipping him for a shock call-up to Lionel Scaloni's Argentina squad. Internacional's executive director Andre Mazzuco recognises that the finances involved might make a permanent deal for Bernabei difficult but insists they are trying to reach an agreement with Celtic.

He said: "He is one of our main players. It is known that it is a hard deal to be closed due to the contract agreement. “The control is with Celtic. We’ll make all the effort we can. It’s our goal to keep him."

Bernabei leaving for 8 million definitely wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card … That would be incredible :56:

I hope Celtic are still closely monitoring Bernabei for improvements v his form in SPL.
Players change, mature and grow - like one Nicklas Kuhn for example.

Put it this way, if we knew nothing about Bernabei and were linked in Jan window knowing his current form and on a free transfer we'd all be going tonto to get him.
If Barca recall Valle, then bring him home!

Imagine being a hun, losing the likes of Cantwell, Kent, Morelos and Kamara for less than £6 million and seeing us punt our third choice LB for £8 million :56:

We’d all take 800k for him just to get rid. I’m thinking someone has got the wrong number of zeros in the figure.
