What happened to Donati?

Me and my pal were just watching the Twists and Turns DVD earlier, the 07/08 season review. I was shocked at the quality of some of Donati's play at the beginning of the season! I'd completely forgotten about some of the amazing goals he scored at the beginning of the season, he looked so promising. Then from December onwards he just steadily got * and *...seems like he stopped trying. It's a shame really cos he can be a great midfielder when he wants to be and often pushes forwards to get goals for himself which is exactly what we need. What made him lose his faith in Celtic?!

 

Hah, you beat me too it! Really good start, but shocking decline. Looked amazing driving into the area and some great finishing as well. I'd actually like to see WGS give him another run in the side!

 

I wouldn't, not if he's gonna be doing the same pish he's been doing since Christmas. Someone needs to sort him out and remind him that he's playing for one of the best clubs in the world. He's lacking the inspiration and motivation he had when he first came to us.

 

Donati has been played out of position since coming to celtic WGS plays him along side brown normally and donati is forced to play the holding role in midfield, donati is an attacking midfielder best play on the right or through the middle so if anything the big mans no had a real chance to play in his natural position, its just another example of WGS buying a player then trying to change the dynamics of them to suit his tactics, why does he not just buy players of good quality and play them in their natural positions its miffs me why WGS must fool around with those ideas.

i loved him when he first came here also wouldn't mind him given another chance

 

he was one of our best players at the start of last season, there's no doubt about it. but do you think he can revive this form?

 

When he came to us he looked brilliant but steadily declined in form and was dropped-I'd like to see us give him a chance-If u play well u keep your place-Brown and Hartley haven't played well so why not give him a chance to gain a place?

 

Always seems lazy and uninterested to me , unless he vastly improves wouldn't wan't to see him back in the team .

 

Lost it after the shakhtar game, really cant see him getting a game unless we have a major injury crisis.

 

i like donati iv said in the past that we should give him until january at least to see if he has bucked up his ideas.
but then i start to wonder if he under estimated our league.
so he may have been caught off guard and trying to get to grips with it all.
i mean our league is not that bad .......is it?

 

I think he just lacks that aggression and desire you need to be a great SPL midfielder.Technically he is the best midfielder in Scotland IMO.If someone could give him a real boot up the hole then we'd have a quality CM on our hands.

For the people saying he wasn't only good at the start of the season I don't agree with that.He was excellent in January and in February up untill the Barca home game.I think getting dropped for the biggest game of his career must have hurt his confidence badly.

Fair play to him he could have run home to Italy this summer but he stayed so obviously wants to stay and make a success of himself here.He said as much in the papers a month ago but talk is cheap.He's in a very similar position to Jiri Jarosik last year.Jiri couldn't even make the bench at the start of last season and ended up contributing greatly before he left.

 

Jarosik was petrov mark 2 as well, * quality player shame he was never allowed to play central.

 

i was thinking that aswell mate donati was a diffrent class against hearts wish he could replicate that this season

 

i said it a hundred times before since January.

he was better than scott brown last season. he has shown more in his time at celtic than scott brown has.

Donati's got talent in him somewhere no doubt, he just cant be arsed using it and putting in the hard work to match it.

His tackling is nonexistant and his passing can be absolutely dire, he can hardly even be bothered to run ffs. I dont want to see him start again.

Give Donati a game when Robson (one of our best players IMO) hardly gets any gametime in the midfield? No way.

 

i do remember him being a good midfielder for us as well but is now USELESS! tbh i wish we sold him so that we don't have to pay for his wages

 

i remember the excitment and hype as we initially signed him but he hasnt come up near to his expectations can the odd time show some talent with keeping posession well (rarely tbh), although he is slow and doesnt seem to be interested or bothered to rum most of the time! but a felt a better player had come out of him against shaktar last season (also scoring vital goal!!!!)

 

If any of yous are having doubts about his talent or have forgotten how good he was, look at some footage from the beginning of last season. He scored some absolute blinders and set up even more. I'll look for some footage on youtube
