I wouldn't do that - some of his posts are very entertaining.

Theres so many variables mate, but we dont often spend that kind of money and BR had spoken about the need to add power and quality for europe.
Im not solely using his fee, his price aside, i think he needs dropped. I just dont think he has played that well and it might do him good to take him out and let him regroup before he gets put back in.
I actually think his price tag is keeping him in the side because i dont think any of our other midfielders would retain their place it they performed like he has. Moreso in europe.

Yeah that's a fair point and there's definitely a case to be made for Bernardo or McCowan getting a start ahead of him, particularly at the weekend.

Too early to be writing him off at all, but after last few games - basically since Dortmund - looks like he needs game managed here before he completely drops all confidence and we * him.

Dropped the next two games wouldn't be a bad shout. Can come off the bench for a cameo and ease back in to it.

I've read about 100 different variations of 'He needs to show why we paid 11m'

I need someone to explain that logic to me. Should Schmeichel start chucking balls in then as he was signed as a free ? Folk get far too hung up on price tags 11m in the grand scheme of football today is nothing granted it isn't for Celtic and I appreciate but the player doesn't set the price. For me he's been fine since coming in all things considered.

I thought he had a good performance, and was rightly shattered by the time he came off. Was always showing for the ball and kept it well, very disciplined positioning and would get higher than Idah when Idah dropped in to stretch the game.

He was a crucial part of the shut out.

Always fascinating how people see things differently, I thought there was a few occasions where he could have moved into a space to receive a pass, but instead stuck by his marker.

Did look to be hiding a bit last night and some really poor decisions by him but it's very very early to judge a young player.

Strange analogy and not a transferable comparison given both players age.
£11m is relatively large fee for Celtic and not a fee we spend often so when we do there is a need to get it right. No other team in our league can spend close to that amount.
He might well develop and kick on this season, but atm Bernardo is impacting games more and for me is more deserving of a start, as it stands.

The vast majority of us on here wanted us to sign Engels during the transfer window, if I am right. He started really well and looked every inch an £11M player, no doubt he has shaded off considerably since then, could well be a confidence issue after Dortmund. I have every confidence he will come good again, as he has bags of quality and belief in himself. I don't think we can compare him to Bernado because he has been here a good bit longer and has established himself and integrated into the team/squad superbly well. I still think Engels will go on to claim that No.6 slot as his own in due time.

It's applying the same logic. Engels has come in and been absolutely fine but because he's not motm in every game his fee is getting brought in to it. It's the exact same with Idah and Trusty. The manager obviously sees great potential in him and has pushed the boat out to get him so to get on his back after a few weeks because of his fee when he's not even been bad is harsh. Let him settle in first he's also been brought in more or less a direct replacement for O'Riley which will bring it's own pressures

    He's already shown he's a class Act..

It's incredibly difficult for even experienced midfielders in the CL..

McGregor has struggled just as badly last two games..

Hatate has actually shown the most in the last two, but can't last more than 60mins.

Engels will learn like all our young players. The difference is Engels has the potential to excel regularly at this level..

That's what we've bought, potential and bags of it..

I need to watch the game again as I think you get most of your analysis spot on but I’m gonna have to disagree on this one.
I thought he was extremely leggy, when he got the ball I think he lacked composure.I remember a few times shouting for him to keep it better but again I could be wrong.
maybe I need to reign in my expectations but I thought he was our worst player

He was our worst player by a considerable distance imo.

The worst part of his game recently has been his positioning, especially defensively.

Both he and Hatate leave Mcgregor exposed. Other than the shot he was unlucky with the goalkeeper saving, Engels did hee haw going forward either.

That’s something we didn’t do last night, and Engel’s was a major part of that. He didn’t do much going forward, but what he did was offer the run beyond time and time again, and stuck to doing it the right times and tucking in defensively forcing the ball out wide without the route from outside to in.

He was very unselfish in his game, and stuck to it. Didn’t hide or chase the ball, supported his team mates. McGregor and Idah the most there. I’m delighted with seeing that from him, he wasn’t a big player on the ball but in the shape, tactically, and selfless work. He had a performance that I’m delighted with. Because when backs have been to the wall so far, he’s been hiding. That last night I’m buzzing he has in him. Was like a Joe Ledley selfless task in there.

Gonna give the boy some slack due to the fact that at his age and the club he was at he’s probably not used to the amount of games we play with cups , league and Europe plus the fact he’s been away with Belgium

think maybe starting from the bench in one of the next games might do him well. I also think the last few games the midfield as a whole have struggled. There’s still glimpses in games that he’s a big talent and the consistency will come.

Due to his fee and his ability from memory he’s took a few hefty tackles in games from people trying to rough him up a little to maybe put him off his game aswell which he’s probably not used to

I usually appreciate most views you put on here mate, but respectfully you're * deluded if that's your take on Engels, especially defensively.

And honestly, if you're DELIGHTED with his performance, then I'd have to hazard a guess you were on it watching it last night.

    * JOE LEDLEY? * was as imposing as Joe Biden.....

Delighted with the performance might be overstating, delighted with his discipline, work rate, positioning and doing a crucial role tactically that wasn’t flashy, but was key.

It’s a side of him I haven’t seen and was worried he didn’t have, because any time backs have been against the wall I think he’s hid. Btw Kuhn, the exact same, and what he done work rate, defending wise, I’m ecstatic with him there.

Btw apologies that last post was a bit much.

Honestly cannot disagree more with your assessment on his discipline etc tactical-wise.

Watch him every time he tracks a man, let's him run off him most times and jogs back at snails pace offering sweet * all - see the low shot from Pasalic straight at Schmeichel as a prime example.
