Suddenly 4 points from that tough start doesn't look too bad

    Home vs Leipzig
    Home vs Brugge
    Home vs Young Boys
    Away vs Zagreb

2 wins or 1 win and 2 draws should see us through. If we don’t manage to get those results, we’ve still got an away game against Villa who may well already be comfortably top 8 by the time we play them, so may rotate their squad.

Looks promising. Great start to the campaign.

I think the majority of us were expecting to only have the 3 points from 3 games so far. Would've bitten your hand off for 4 points at this stage.

Unfortunately there's no more dropping down into the Europe from the CL mate.

The Dortmund result put a downer on things, but tonight has given everyone a lift. Brendan got it spot on to be fair to him.

Celtic have banked a Champions League bonus for their hard-fought draw against Atalanta.

Brendan Rodgers' side were resolute in defence as they battled to a goalless draw in Italy.

In doing so, Celtic earned a bonus payment from UEFA with clubs rewarded for wins and draws in the league phase of the competition.

Already, Celtic have banked €18.62m (£15.7m) simply from being involved in the league phase of the Champions League.

However, they added another €700k (£590k) to the bank balance this evening by taking a draw against Atalanta

That's on top of the €2.1m (£1.77m) they earned for their victory over Slovan Bratislava last month.

It takes Celtic's UEFA earnings from the competition so far to around €21.5m (£17.94m).

Beyond per-match win or draw fees, Celtic will also be guaranteed another payment from UEFA of €275k (£232k) minimum. The club finishing 36th in the league phase will earn that figure with another €275k added for every position higher in the table after all eight matches.

    Celtic Champions League prize money
    League phase participation - €18.62m (€17.87m down-payment and €750k balance).

Performance bonuses - €2.1m per win, €700k per draw.

League ranking bonus - Each club will earn at least €275k for their league phase campaign - for every position above 36th, another €275k will be added to the bonus.

Furthermore, clubs ranked 1-8 at the end of the league phase will receive an additional €2m with clubs 9th to 16th pocketing €1m.

Progression bonuses - qualification for the knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
− qualification for the round of 16: €11m per club
− qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
− qualification for the semi-finals: €15m per club
− qualification for the final: €18.5m per club
    - competition winners receive an additional€6.5m.

Personally, I look at it like the CL level games are done. We’re now playing EL level teams and should be taking points:

Leipzig (H) - who we have already beaten in the EL (& they had, arguably, a better team back then)

Brugge (H) - old Phil’s team & got to be taking something

Zagreb (A) - a team we played back in the RD days in the EL and should be doing well against them

Young Boys (H) - arguably the second worst team we’ve drawn > should be beating them at home

Aston Villa (A) - the league could be done for both of us by this point but no way should we be not competing with them. When you think of the Man City & Man Utd teams we’ve competed against over the years, please don’t think we can’t beat them.

Fair few teams I didn't expect us to be above come 3 matches in. Good start in points terms.

Better goal diff than Atleti :giggle1:

Zagreb beat Salzburg 2-0 away from home. That away tie won't be as straight forward as folk are thinking.

We need to believe we can win our next two games and put it to bed.

Will be tough but we are at home.

Villa are top on nine points gotta hope their home and dry for this tie reason being isn’t so much a quality gap for me it’s the fact unai emery is a master at European football he’s come a long way since Neil Lennon schooled him when he was Spartak manager

Best we could REASONABLY have hoped for was 5. Win the first and seriously graft for 2 draws. We have played 2 tip teams, in difficult venues and come away with a good point.

I'm hoping we'll have 12 by the time we play Villa. Big ask, but I'm hoping... I'd be happy with 10. Ecstatic with 14.

We can definitely stay in the competition, but I'd even be pleased with us being close, rather than getting humbled... If we can progress over a couple of years of continuous growth it's the way forward!
