Don’t think he’s been bad but more passive last few games, would prefer Bernardo start ahead of him for the next game or two

The way you're coming across is suggesting that. Thats what I'm getting from the tone of your posts.

That to suggest a young player needing time even one with his price tag, is wrong. I don't think its a wild statement. Hence "outlandish"

My point about Messi isn't moot. It was said as that's the only player I can literally think of at such an age who hasn't been inconsistent, as hes a complete anomaly. Whether their price tag was 110m or 11m. I used that to show how common I believe it to be, to see this from a player his age, after you said his age is nothing to do with it.

Engels has played 7 games and has been good in over half of those I'd say. Pretty sure when we signed him and paid that money noone at the club including Rodgers would have been surprised at seeing a bit of inconsistency. Rodgers has already spoken about him needing the time to develop. He's a developing, young footballer, that's really what I'm getting at.

Just find it unfortunately unsurprising that there's already debates like this even happening amongst our support.

He was playing for a mid table bundesliga side (at best) and wasn't under the spotlight that he is here. I don't agree with falling back on the Bundesliga chat. It's not as simple as that. Aye he's came from a much higher level bit how many players (far more experienced ones) have came here or elsewhere in Scotland and either taken time to settle or flopped?

You know as well as me how hard a club this is to play at especially when you're a record signing at his age. I'm not saying that he will get a free pass from me forever, but he's shown enough so far that gives me confidence it'll come over time.

Insanity, for me. His quality stands out a mile for me. 100% first name on the team sheet (ahead of Cal) UNDROPPABLE!

Really? I like him and you can definitely see his quality but for me since maybe the bratislava he’s been fairly quiet in games and hasn’t got himself involved as much as I’d expect. He’s definitely not undroppable. Right now I’d rather see bernardo start ahead of him for a game or two, he’s still young and competition will benefit.

I think criticism of him yesterday has been overly harsh. He is unlucky with that effort that hits the bar made a lot of good runs into the box and should have scored with the one he failed to make good connection of his left. His ball for Kyogo makes the Hatate goal.

His set piece delivery wasn’t great but other than that he was largely fine. For me our midfield could really be doing with a Mooy type player who is maybe at towards the end of his career but got a lot of top league experience and quality on the ball. McGregor should be this but I sometimes feel he is more of a good player in a good team than the main man.

He's a player we have bought to develop. He is going to be inconsistent at a young age. There is enough there to suggest he is going to be a good player for us. Played well in spells yesterday.

Had an excellent start particularly and good first half overall..

Ball to Kyogo for the first
Hit the bar with a great effort
Shouldn't scored with his left in the box
Had another he cut across goal that just went wide

Second half I thought more than once that he was hugging the line far too often. Don't know if that's a tactic but he's far more dangerous when he's central..

Really should have done better with that volley in first half. Overall, just not at it yesterday.

I think Engels is a natural No.6, but he is getting shunted about in midfield and it is going to take a bit longer for him to adjust. He was very unlucky not to have scored two goals yesterday, and at 21 he is still quite young. I think eventually he will claim that No.6 for his own, unless we get a very big bid coming in for him.

The same at the back as well. We've seen the difference bringing in an order head makes with Toure more recently and before that Majstorovic.

Big Maj got a lot of stick but he made a disastrous defence pretty steady.

He got completely sucked in for the second goal, left Shinnie completely unmarked.

Pretty much what Mr Shelby said. He's a young player so his form is probably gonna be up and down for spells. For me though...I think he's already shown some qualities on the ball that suggest he can go to a high level.

I really liked Majstorovic. Just a bit of pace away from being one of our best ever defenders. I suppose you could say the same about Greg Taylor, though ha ha.

Only us as a support could complain and criticise a player who's getting a game for the 6th ranked team in international football

Young guy in a new country? Once he settles he'll be a cracker and possibly our next £30 million sale

Lads only 20 and one full season under his belt.
    Just switched clubs and country.

He's the step up in quality when we make these signings, much more ready for active game time. But he's still young and learning. Like all youngsters, he will blow hot and cold.

It's far too early to be calling him a waste or a flop. Far too early for that.
Like Trusty he does need time.

    Unlike trusty, he's young.
Trusty you pay £6m for and at 26 I expect to be able to walk in to the team.
A 20 year old who's playing this regular for us, I'm going to give a bit of time to in the early few months.

If there is any criticism, it's to the club in waiting til the last few days of august to begin him in.
With two international breaks since he has signed and only had, what 3 league games? It's still bedding in time for almost all of the guys signed in the last week of the window.
