Well he’s got a big job on his hands so he won’t be sitting there bored at any point.

Youth system is a joke at the moment so that needs serious review.

We also have glaring holes in our ability to recruit for specific positions in the team - centre back, left back, winger, defensive midfielder. Hopefully his experience in data and analytics can help us spot these players for these positions and it pays dividends.

How much impact he has by January is doubtful, he needs time to bed himself in, will be interesting come next summer if how we go about recruitment across youth and first team changes in a noticeable way.

Our model, price range and the markets we are operating in have more in common with those of a good League 1 club than with those of a typical CL club to be fair. Like everyone else, I did some Googling and, while I'm not blown away by his record, I'm not totally underwhelmed either.

Don't know a lot about the guy but wish US and him every success.

From what I've seen/read I get the feeling a few are just waiting, hoping, on this being an unsuccessful appointment. Maybe they are just * off that the expertise they have didn't see the job offered to them instead.

I like that approach, as long as it’s tempered with watching a guy and having the eyeballing their game opinion along with it.

Paul Tisdale once branded himself as a ‘football doctor’, so it may well be fitting that he has been brought into Celtic to aid Brendan Rodgers, and as a potential remedy to a structure that many fans have long felt needed some serious life breathed into it.

“He won't live that down, will he?”, Rodgers laughed.

For all that the Celtic manager saw the funny side of that quote though, he believes that Tisdale is a serious operator, and someone who can really make a difference to the way that the club functions, particularly when it comes to their recruitment.

There had been a void at the top of that particular department since the departure of head of first team scouting and recruitment Mark Lawwell back in March, but Tisdale will now officially be the man to fill it – as well as steering some other key areas of the club – as Celtic's head of football operations.

A former manager himself, spending 12 years at Exeter City as well as having spells at MK Dons, Bristol Rovers and Stevenage, Rodgers is sure that Tisdale will know exactly what he wants from him, and the support he will need in order to ensure that Celtic are not only attracting the best players they possibly can, but producing them too through their academy.

Paul was in with us over the course of that summer period, and from an operational and strategic perspective, we needed someone else to come in and support that side of things,” Rodgers said.

“So, I'm absolutely delighted that he's in.

Paul is a talented guy and he joins talented people that we have here at the club and that's what we want to strive to bring in, people that can help us make a difference and people that are compatible with the philosophy here and how we work.

“He's also had managerial experience, which I'm really pleased with as well and that was also a factor. He understands football, he understands the game, he's managed for a long time also.

“So, he knows from what it takes on the field and he obviously knows that balance between how you need to work with your board.

“So, I'm absolutely delighted he's here and I'm sure that he'll make a really good impact for us.

“Sometimes people will never know the challenges of what a manager will go through and what a recruitment team will go through.

“There are many challenges here but having someone that can come in on that operational side [will help].

“My job is to ensure we look after the core performance, and of course, manage that. But having someone like Paul there to focus purely on that is something that will benefit the club.”

The arrival of Tisdale then is a nod to the long term aims of the club, but in the here and now, they have the small matter of a visit to Celtic Park from the side currently tucked in behind them in second place in the Premiership standings to care of.

My thoughts in a nutshell. Only two things I'd add - one good and one weird:
    1. He isn't someone with much of a prior link to the club, other than Brendan seems to know him a bit, or at least know of him - and that he seems to have been brought in at first as a consultant, and then offered this role. That's still a world away from how we normally go about finding these sorts of appointment. Refreshing.
    2. The announcement says he will report directly to the Board, rather than being line-managed by Nicholson or another Exec. That potentially says a lot about the Board's actual faith in Nicholson on anything resembling footballing matters. If they really believe they know better than our CEO on how to manage a guy who is essentially a DoF, then perhaps we have the wrong CEO. More likely that the board want Nicholson there for other reasons; whether that's because he's a puppet or a financial genius is open to interpretation.

Stagnated really after lennons first stint. Maybe even before that. Lennoxtown was a school and football institution and had went to *...not as a training ground but what it was intended to be. Tommy burns had so much more expected to how it panned out imo

    Good points.

Apparently he has been working with the club for quite a while, going by what 20MT said about someone posting about him on the Discord ages ago. Story goes he was overheard in Glasgow Airport saying that he works with Celtic, someone snapped a pic of him on posted on their forum.

I don’t give a * how he dresses tbh, but his patter is way too cocky for me. Someone else said Beale and I’d agree. Go to 37 minutes and watch his comments. Hope I’m wrong.

If he fails, so what. We need this position in our structure. If he’s * empty him in the summer and get someone else of a higher calibre in.
BR had to say he is the man, corporate *, however if he doesn’t do the business i firmly believe Brendan will sort it out behind the scenes.

Maybe I'm judging too much on first impressions, but I watched some brief interviews with him and it's all empty patter about synergy and the like. Plenty of talk about philosophies without concrete ideas of what you actually do to achieve specific goals.

Perhaps he's got that in him but to me people that are good at sorting out transfer strategies aren't smoothtalkers, they're reclusive nerds that spend all day hunched over spreadsheets. I want a Moneyball type character, someone lacking even the most basic social graces, just talks football and numbers. Never seen a hat in his life.

    Will give him time.

He has a big job on his hands so I'd like to hope he isn't the only person brought in. It needs more than just one guy but its a start. We need a lot more scouts added for one.

Did hope we'd have went for someone who had a prevuous track record at a decent sized club abroad. In Portugal, Spain or somewhere, just to show a bit more ambition. Despite having a managerial career it was hardly glittering.

    Anyway. It's something.

Well that didn't last long before someone figured out he's had previous involvement :56:
Perhaps they just mean only back to this summer and not that he's been here in some fashion years back.

Celtic's new Head of Football operations Paul Tisdale has been hailed by chief executive Michael Nicholson.

"He's going to play an important role", says Nicholson.
