Taylor has been a big contributor this season domestically but he is sorely lacking defensively he has no pace, no strength and positionally is suspect.

His main attribute is his range of passing when facing up the pitch. However, he is poor at receiving the ball facing his own goal as he panics when pressed and passes it the direction he is facing often back into trouble as he doesn’t think about what he is doing just getting the ball away from him.

To me he often shrieks responsibility, there is a lot of arms up in the air and pointing at others. His European highlight reel is seriously bad but he has also been made look ordinary by players in our league like Danny Armstrong at times.

On the contract signing he seems good mates with a lot of our ex Scots in the EPL and seems to have a high opinion of himself so it wouldn’t surprise me if he thinks he can get a better deal down there.

Do players actually ask for guaranteed game time when trying to negotiate a contract?

Not sure that works in reality, has to be form driven and a new coach might not fancy him.. surely it can only ever be verbal assurances.. unless a % of games is actually written in, which may happen with loan deals..

Grand old team to play for
Think we need someone with a lot of pace and stamina to play inverted LB in Europe. They've got to constantly tuck in to midfield then sprint out to the wing when on opposition wide player receives the ball. Then get up the park to support the attacks and overlap our wide players when they come inside. That is a * of a lot of high intensity running especially when you're up against a quick direct team like Dortmund.

Also needs to be left footed, able to pass round a press, have strength in their duels and be able to play like a midfielder. It is quite a tall order to fill.

Players will look for assurances about their playing time before agreeing to sit down, but it won't typically be in the contract. Obviously if a new coach comes in all bets are off, but he could hold Rodgers to any commitment internally, at least if he's playing well enough.

I can't see right now why playing time would be an issue for him when he plays literally every game and has done for several seasons. By the same token, if money's the issue, who is it that's going to pay him much more than us? Where he is in the team right now is as good as it's ever going to get for Taylor anywhere.

We'd have been better off starting with 10 men. Valle must surely keep his place.

Taylor is injured now, so hopefully Valle cements place starting tomorrow..

We need better than Taylor, but he's been subbed at HT two games in a row now, so tbf to him, must have been playing with a knock.

Only real situation I believe it might happen is for loans from another club.

I'm sure, a player signing an extension will consider where they are in the pecking order and whether the manager is looking to bring in competition. Got to be part of the decision.

Personally, I feel it's Celtic not being willing to pay him what he is confident he can get elsewhere is the most obvious reason Taylor's not signed. Pretty mad considering we were paying the likes of Gamboa £16-18k a week 7/8 years ago and he barely played for us.

We really do give this boy a lot of stick. (Myself included).

He has been a mainstay for years now. He knows he is the scapegoat. He’s probably weighing up his options based on more than just money.

I would have been insulted if that Argentinian DUD was brought in to replace me and now the fans getting excited over a loanee. Valle made a prize * of the 6th the other night after Schmeichel’s poor ball out.

We do need a better player with a bigger stature than Taylor, but it’s not his fault he’s not Kieran Tierney and not his fault we first bought a headless chicken, who is also a Smurf , and now we have a loanee to “compete” with him.

If he leaves I will wish him good luck and if he stays I would not be disappointed, however we need an upgrade. A proper full time upgrade. That may well be Valle. He’s got a chance now.

If he does go at least it reduces the amount of Boys Brigade first names in the defence!!!

Really disappointed to hear he's injured bcoz when he was subbed off at half time the other night I thought by some miracle the manager had finally saw what every opposition manager sees in the useless wee fud

Game time is an issue bcoz he probably realises that at some point we will actually get our * act together and sign an actual quality left back. Knowing us we will probably just sign the last quality left back we actually had, that we never replaced.

    * got an absolute cheek to be making any kind of demands to us about game time, a player of his ability should he thanking his lucky stars that he's still here never mind being fortunate to be offered another new deal.

He needs a * reality check bcoz if he's wanting similar money and regular game time he's genuinely looking at bottom half of championship or some well off team in league one.

I suspect he has backed himself into a corner with his demands-new contract with a pay rise.
He needs to be realistic-he is a decent back up option on decent money-for a guy with such limited ability.
Just cant see anyone taking him and giving him more than he is already on.
If he is not prepared to stay put, accept the situation for what it is, then off ya go and join the like of Turnbull, fighting relegation down in Championship, for a few grand more a week and never win another medal again in his career.

I'm not too convinced about Valle to be honest. I think he is very lightweight (like half our team) and we all saw just how easily he was bullied by that big Falkirk player. Hopefully the boy proves me wrong

Yes he pulled him back however, even though that should have been a foul the big guy gave him a torrid time - particularly the first half.

But Greg Taylor is still struggling and is likely to miss the clash with Aberdeen in a fortnight

Greg will just have to wait and see.

But on that I thought young Alex Valle had done well today. Especially the second half, his positioning was a little bit better. But Greg, we hope he'll be back. If he's not for Aberdeen, then not long after that.”

Apparently the reason we missed out on Ivan Toney. Not guaranteed to be number 1, but we were spending the money on him that we viewed him as a player that should be number one but challenging Edouard at that time. He wasn’t happy with that.

He also talked to the Huns and didn’t get a guarantee.

Apparently that’s a common thing. That boggles my mind. Nobody’s guaranteed, it should be we think you should be but you need to keep up the level that you guarantee that yourself. If I was a manager if any player asked me for a guaranteed place, I’d immediately doubt that they back their ability.

Wee greggy bhoy standing up against wee Brendan at last

Celtic left-back Greg Taylor will have to put any issues with manager Brendan Rodgers behind him if he wants to earn his place back from in-form Alex Valle.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes the 26-year-old may have had a bust-up with Rodgers, 51, and admits his competition with Alex Valle, 20, is ‘good for the team

Taylor reportedly picked up a calf injury in Celtic’s heavy 7-1 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund and was forced to sit out their 2-1 win over Ross County on Sunday (October 6).

Barcelona loanee Valle has since stepped into the first team seamlessly, making six recoveries and winning three duels in his first full 90 minutes of the season against the Scottish Premier League strugglers

Valle was brought in to prove cover for Taylor after the Scotland international played 46 games across all competitions last season.

The Glasgow giants look well on their way to a fourth consecutive Scottish Premier League title after winning all seven of their opening league games.

I like him (Valle), he’s got some great touches”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“He likes to defend, I’m all for my left-back wanting to defend, I think he’s going to be good, I think he’s going to give Greg Taylor a run for his money that’s for sure

You hear Greg Taylor is injured or you hear he’s fallen out with the manager, there is all sorts of rumours going about a bust-up, that’s what I am hearing from people around the club.

But at the moment, the boy has come in and he’s not done anything wrong, and Greg will know whether he’s injured or whether he’s fallen out with the manager, he will have to fight to get back in.

“And that’s competition, it’s good for the team.”

Frank MacAvennie is an absolute *.

Has he fallen out with Clarke coincidentally at the exact same time aye?
