You can tell he's been carrying an injury for a long time.

His performances aren't his usual high standards (still hasn't dropped below a 7 though).

Rest him whenever we can - e.g. against St Johnstone. Give Trusty a game beside AJ, Scales and Taylor.

He can’t seem to stay fit the big guy. It is really becoming a worry, missed large parts of last season, a crucial part of the season the year before and finished early to get surgery and has started this one with a foot injury.

Hopefully he can make Dortmund away otherwise I would make do against St Johnstone and Ross County and hopefully come to an agreement for him to miss the internationals and he can get a clear run at the next set of fixtures as we badly need him for a number of those games.

He's picking up common injuries though. It's not like they're reoccurring ones. He's averaged 8 games missed due to injury for the past three seasons. We do need to manage him though as he is integral to doing well against better opposition. If he's fit or not for St Johnstone, he should still be rested.

No way should he be going on international duty. That would set him back massively. Not starting him every game possible would help with that.

There's no way an international team will reach an agreement to not pick a player who's fit to play for his team. Every major player in the world would cry off if there was a conflict of interest domestically.

Don't think it's very unusual, but it depends how important the NT fixtures are, and the type of injury problem.

We agreed that with US last time, if the player isn’t 100% they may risk losing them longer. CCV has been a fringe player at best for the US team.

To be fair although he gets called up the Americans don't play him that much which is fine by me.

Here’s one to put to you. Obviously we as fans would never wish injuries on our players.

But would you take missing CCV for 10-15 games a season if it means a team down south doesn’t come in for him? And potentially stays here for a few more years…

The only problem with Scales and Trusty together is that you have two totally left footed centre halfs.

…we went about 5 years minimum with two right-footed CBs (maybe a lot longer than that, if memory serves). I do get that that’s slightly different as ‘right-footed’ doesn’t always mean ‘right-sided’, whereas with the left it usually does mean they play that side. Nonetheless, the point still stands that it isn’t so radically different or uncommon.

It’s not ideal, but a quality CB should be able to cope with it.

I think it would be very uncommon to have two left footed centre halfs mate.

I don’t think there’s a hope in * Scales could play as the right sided centre half if I’m honest.

It is uncommon and i agree it seems strange, but in reality it's not really different to 2 right sided players.

I’ve not seen enough of Trusty, but I just couldn’t envisage Scales on the right side of the pair. I think it would hamper us going forward slightly as well, as a big part of how we attack is moving the ball from our centre half quickly to our winger to get him one v one against the full back. I don’t think we would be as efficient at doing this.

I'd think it much more common for right footed CBs to play on the left, simply because there are far more right footed players, meaning they'll get more practice at it.

Aye, I think it would be Trusty on the right... but it could be awkward.

But, fully expecting Welsh as Nawrocki hasn't played at all.

Nah. Rather he was 100%, proves himself at a champions league level, and moves on for a small fortune.

As long as we improve out scouting of centre backs!
