I think with the stronger clubs in the LOI finally at least to an extent getting decent academies going and those young players going and getting playing time at very young ages in the first teams of LOI clubs as well makes the LOI a location where we can likely pick up a good young player or 2 in the future along the lines of how things turned out with Liam Scales.

No harm whatsoever in buying him and keeping him at Pats for a year or so

Think he’s bypassed our level purely by age alone. He’ll go to the premier league or Italy unfortunately. Can’t actually think of the last Irish youth product in the 15-17 age range who’s made the jump to Italy or England and been an instant success. Curtis last year to Sheff utd looked the most promising but nothing as of yet.

think Evan Ferguson was at Brighton before that age? But even he doesnt seem to be in the new managers plans. Few lads away to inter too who I haven’t heard of since.

if Melia was to be really looking out for his career id say stay in Ireland til you’re 18 and get 60 professional games played before then moving away at still a young age

We need to be all over him. 17 years old, 50 plus games, 10 plus goals and some assists. It’s the sort of signing we should be making and loaning him out at a higher level, within our league. What’s he going to cost? £1m at a maximum. For a 17 year old who’s a mainstay in a top Irish team.

He can’t sign for a uk team until he’s 18 which is bang on a year from now so he will have another full season under his belt. Was at the game last night and he was class. Some engine on the lad and he has a bit of everything his all round play is so good.
There’s another 16 year old at pats who played a cup game for the first team during the week michael Noonan is his name. He’s like a left footed melia tbh

Funny enough, my namesake on here Scales is a good example to try and steal a run for guys like him… promising in LoI and now scoring in the CL and internationally, cementing his place here.

Good example of us backing ability and at his age especially, if he can cement himself here, it’s a lot more likely a route to higher level games than Spurs would be.

Depends on how highly we rate him and how much is actually in the rumours us wanting him. £1m or so we can afford no bother, but it’d be rare for that age of player. But he looks worth that, and he’d be first team before he would at Spurs if he makes the step up. Then after that? 4-5 years here, could be 22-23 experienced, a winner, played CL, and we have a track record of a pathway to the EPL and of they have the talent and mentality, that being a great stepping stone to go on to highest level… Van Dijk being that example.

Others having good EPL careers who aren’t that sort of level, like Armstrong, Christie, Ajer etc,

It shouldn’t rule us out for guys like this. But most likely, you’d be spot on here sadly.

We spent £1m on Kwon and not far off for Ideguchi and Kobayashi. I don't see the board cheaping out for Melia, if we don't get him it'll be because they don't see potential or he wants to go to England.

Aye I'm sure we'd baulk at a lofty ONE MILLION POUND! fee.

    Ridiculous sums of money.
