Brendan Rodgers is convinced that Celtic’s squad will be strong enough to help them perform at a continued high standard across four competitions this season.

Despite losing star player Matt O’Riley, who joined English Premier League side Brighton last month, the Hoops arguably came out of the transfer window even stronger than they entered it with the arrivals of Kasper Schmeichel, Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo, Auston Trusty, Arne Engels and Luke McCowan

That could be an ominous sign for the rest of the league as early signs suggest that last season’s double winners are looking in better form than last season.

They will compete in three different competitions over the next week, starting at home to Hearts in the Premiership on Saturday before taking on Slovan Bratislava in their Champions League opener on Wednesday and then Falkirk in the League Cup quarter-finals next week.

Speaking on Friday, Rodgers said he is pleased with how the squad is looking

He said: “I think the strength for us is over the course of the season, it’s not just for now.

“It’s a really long season and when you think there’s no break that we’ve had for a number of years up here, there’s international football for many of the players, so having that depth of squad, in order to keep the rhythm, to keep the intensity, to keep the speed, and the functionality of the team, that’s important.

“So, I’m really pleased, we done really well in the window with the players we brought in and we are really happy with that.

“We still want to improve going forward, but the players we’ve brought in will improve and get better and the squad is looking strong.

“Firstly the players that were already here have been fantastic, the level we were at in pre-season was a really high level at that stage, those guys then continued that into the league and we’ve brought in other guys to strengthen that.

“That puts us in a good place to develop the talents, to keep improving them, and more importantly, to help them fit into our structure.”

Think it's class they've finally done something like this but I can't help but cringe a bit at some of it. All I'm thinking is that Rodgers is playing up to the camera :BR1:

    Good content but.

Bullish Brendan Rodgers insists the "narrative" around Slovan Bratislava does not make Celtic's Champions League opener any easier.

And he insists Celtic deserved more from their last Champions League campaign as the boss came out swinging before the first game of the revamped league phase on Wednesday. The Scottish Premiership kings go into the clash against the Slovakian champions as heavy favourites - with Vladimir Weiss' men the lowest-ranked side in the 36-team format having navigated the play-off rounds to join Europe's elite

But speaking ahead of the Hoops' first game of the new-look competition Rodgers was keen to stress the danger the visitors pose. Quizzed if going into the opener as favourites changed the mindset for Celtic, he responded: "Not really. I think it's normal. We come into every game and respect the opponent. Obviously there will be a narrative around this game, which I totally get, but I look at Bratislava and they have had four ties and eight games to get to this stage. So they have put in a massive amount of work and fight to reach this level

He was then put on the spot about the learning curve from last season's group stage campaign - which saw the club earn just one win and four points before crashing out of Europe. Rodgers fired back: "You look at the nuts and bolts of it, people will say you only got four points and then they will cry about that, and the season before and the season before.... I look at it that last year was (down to) decisive moments. Apart from the game away in Madrid where we lost a man early on and got punished by a team that got to the quarter-final. I thought in the other games showed up well in.

We could have won the Lazio game, and should never have lost it. Feyenoord at home we were good and won the game. Away to Feyenoord we were good and right in it, then we concede and lost two men and that's the challenge. For me looking at it I thought if we can strengthen the squad we can take another step closer, and we did that."

Respectful of the opponent but aware of the need to lift the crowd and a quiet confidence about him. Got me buzzing for tonight now!

Mon Brendan, this is your time to shine!

Crowd need to show their maturity tonight. Can’t be getting anxious if things aren’t going our way early on.
