Last season he done the same with about 10 different partnerships, the only competition being who could manage to show enough to be next to him.

He’s just had that standard. Regardless of competition or circumstances. And its far to under appreciated

His forward passing was better yesterday. Still passed up some good opportunities, but pulled off some good progressive passes too. Defended our box really well.

Hard to give a defender MOTM when ya spank the filth 3 zip but for me he was.... won everything in the air, yes his passing at times can be suspect but yesterday he was filth...(in a good way)

If he was a new player from the likes of France or Germany he'd be getting rave reviews.

Will be tough to punt him for Trusty. We simply can't just drop him after how he have started this season. Have been as good as CCV. Jesus christ guys what a team we are.

Justified Rodgers belief in him with the contract extension and sticking with him. Said myself that if he can find last seasons starting form for the whole season he'll be a mainstay. Be brilliant watching him play with cover to rest when tired and push him when he feels like a slump.

Actually really excited for europe. Rodgers always sets us up well and now we've got good depth for once and playing very well with a great understanding. The way we can break forward is phenomenal. Could be looking at our champions league record points tally imo.

Yesterday was his best game for us, so I'd disagree.

For me, he had about 6 months where he just plain wasn't all that good. He never fell below "OK" and without him, we couldn't have won the league; but based on his form in the second half of last season, we were right to demand an upgrade.

I do agree that on current form, he has to keep his place.

2-1 game Parkhead at new year when he’s doing it next to an unfit Welsh then an unfit bombscare of a Nawrocki was more impressive than him strolling it next to an imperious CCV for me tbh but he was * hot yesterday.

But his best game for us was undoubtedly the 2-2 against Atletico Madrid when he was * unreal up against Griezmann

Yeah the more I've watched back and thought about it, I'd give it to him. Was excellent. Bernardo may have had a shout if he'd stayed on longer but thought Scales was superb throughout.

6 months? So what, November to May last season he wasn’t good? I’d strongly disagree with that.

In fairness during that period last year the entire team was absolute pish, eyebleed stuff..

Scales held that ‘backline’ together. And backline is definitely in quotes there, there was times he had Bernabei next to him and * like Nat Phillips or Lagerbielke swapping in and out in the same games. Hart stepped up round that period, but towards end of the season when CCV came back it he faded into the background almost in relief. We’d have been * without him last year.

Maybe I'm misremembering here; but I remember feeling there was a sizeable drop-off in his performances from roughly about when our CL campaign finished. Certainly after the winter break at any rate.

That’d be February odds after the Winter break, CL campaign December. Certainly not 6 months.

End of the season when CCV came back, Hatate was back was when everything clicked and we kicked on and his partnership with CCV clicked. Before that he was the stand out but needing to be. By that point we were better all round though, with Scales and CCV at the back.

He was making mistakes last season that he didn't make yesterday, even when he was playing well. He's releasing the ball far more quickly this season, which has helped a lot.

As I said, at least since the break; but I also think around December (although I'm less sure). I also think he wasn't that great at the end of last season. Finally, as good as he definitely was this week and last week (and I was effusive in my praise for him after both games), I think he had very mixed games against Kilmarnock and Hibs.

I think his form can be maintained (because he did it last autumn) and I really hope he does so (it might surprise you, but I genuinely do like him and want him to do it!); but I think for much of last season (whether 6 months or 4), he was very, very ordinary.

He's defended superbly plenty of times to be fair to him especially in big games actually where we are a wee bit deeper in defence and leave less gaps and have more numbers deeper to pass to. In Europe last season he was probably our 2nd best player to O'Riley and even against the huns you could say the same.

It's in the League against all the * im more bothered by him where the gaps to pass into are smaller and the gaps to defend are bigger thats when he gets troubled more.

Maybe like the Samaras equivalent of a defender plays better in Europe and against the huns than he does against St Mirren and Ross County.
