It has been a whirlwind of a week for new Bhoy, Arne Engels, which began by helping FC Augsburg to a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on the opening day of the German Bundesliga season, and culminated with a deadline day move to Celtic.

And in between that, the midfielder was also called up to the Belgium national squad for their forthcoming Nations League matches.

The 20-year-old is proud to have received the international call-up but even more delighted to have joined the Scottish Champions.

He has signed a four-year deal with Celtic, and is relishing the challenges ahead, both domestically and in Europe, where he is set to face Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League – the club where he came through their youth academy.

Speaking to Celtic TV after sealing the move to Celtic, Arne Engels said: “We have a really good squad at Celtic and with the fans behind us, I hope we will get a lot of trophies and wins together.

“It will be amazing to play at Celtic Park. Everyone is really close to the pitch so I think it will be really, really loud, and from what I’ve heard of it, it will be really special. I hope to play before the fans as soon as possible.”

That chance could come as early as this Sunday when Brendan Rodgers’ side play host to Rangers in the first Glasgow derby of the season.

The Belgian midfielder has already spoken with his new manager and he’s ready for the derby action should he be called upon.

“I hope so,” he said. “It’s the choice of the manager so I will see about that, but I’m always ready, so we will see.

“The trust that the club and the manager is giving me is a lot and it’s nice to experience. It’s also a bonus point actually, so it’s always nice to hear this from such a really good manager.

“Celtic has a style that suits me really well so that’s also one of the reasons that I wanted to join this really big club.

“It will be amazing to create a lot of chances and to get a lot of possession in games. It’s a new experience so it will be really nice.”

This is our business model but on a higher level, 20 yr old with bags of potential, better players inspire those around them.

For all the justifiable attacks on the board over recent years, I understand how hard it is to attract true quality to Scotland
So hats off to them , the more I look into Engels the more I am amazed that he has come to us - could be our most ambitious signing ever!!

He seems a very confident young lad. I think he's going to come in and make an immediate, massive impact.

Getting named for your national side and jointing the greatest club on the planet in the same day will be hard to be topped for the young man.

This will sound negative and I hope in a years time it's a Van Dijk-esque headscratcher. But I wonder why there wasn't bigger teams in Germany after him. Is he maybe not quite that level?

Moving to a top 5 league and then to us is unprecedented for such a highly rated player. Seems a coup for us.

Comparisons in style to pascal gross and frankie de Jong in his Ajax days :BR1:
Preferably an 8 where he can kind of do it all in the middle rather than a 10 or a 6.
Literally the only flaw he mentioned would be a slight lack in physicality but technical ability should more than make up for it. Really excited by this lad
