BIRMINGHAM CITY could launch a deadline-day move for Celtic's Tomoki Iwata.

SunSport revealed the Japanese midfielder is considering leaving Parkhead in search of regular football

Brum boss and ex-Celtic No2 Chris Davies is rebuilding his squad for a League One promotion tilt.

And 27-year-old Iwata could join Old Firm rivals Scott Wright and Ben Davies in the Midlands.

The Rangers winger is closing in on a permanent deal - days after the defender moved to Brum on loan.

Iwata could be joining them today after falling down the midfield pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.

It's unclear whether Celtic would entertain a loan or would prefer a permanent switch for their utility man.

But there has been growing interest in Iwata from the UK and Europe after he failed to make the last two matchday squads.

He joined Celtic from Yokohama F.Marinos in January 2023 but has never managed to establish himself as a regular.

And with the Hoops working to complete an £11million deal for Arne Engels, and potentially bring in Luke McCowan, Iwata's future is expected to lie elsewhere

I'd be happy to let him go..

Doesn't really fit in. Rodgers clearly doesn't fancy him. He's too slow and cumbersome on the ball for me..

1 mill and free's up another midfielder to come in..

Huge mistake to let him go. Always thought he was solid. Put some MOTM performances as well. I'm very confused as to why Brendan does not see him in this team.

Seems odd to let him go, he's always reliable, and who else will play when McGregor is out

Cause he favours a possession-based approach and wants a ball-playing DM. That's clearly not Iwata. He would have been great under Ange who favoured ball pressure over ball possession.

Similar situation at Liverpool. Slot favours ball possession and succeeded Klop who favoured ball pressure. Liverpool's #1 target was reportedly Zubimendi who's a ball-playing DM, but he was unwilling to leave Sociedad. Different managers have different styles.

Think that could be said of a few in our team.

I want players to play with controlled aggression.

Iwata is a strong, stocky lad. No reason why he isn't playing in the style of CCV.

So you essentially want Iwata to be the replacement for MOR? * help us.

He’s already shown he’s not good enough. A defensive midfielder who has little aggression, not great on the ball and doesn’t offer much progressively.

Although Iwata can't be MOR replacement, I disagree with everything below that point.

Constantly gets caught in possession far too slow on the ball would be happy to see him leave today if another midfielder is coming in that can offer more than what he can.

Another waste of money that i’m glad we’re moving on from.

Us buying from the J-League was like winning from a puggy with Kyogo/hatate/maeda being a success, we just went mental after that and wasted money.

He's miles better on the ball than Brown was. Quick and intelligent.
