Watching Barcelona regularly means I can ably state the qualities of the players in front of him in their pecking order, rather than just simply quoting their ages.

Regarding Liverpool, they had Joe Gomez playing left back the entirety of January whilst they had Owen Beck readily available to them. That really doesn’t say much for Beck. You may well know that though and that’s why you avoided my question on how often Beck has featured for Liverpool; because it completely undermines your argument.

As @murphy88 has said above, Beck wouldn’t have been an immediate upgrade on Taylor and I don’t think he’d have been a guaranteed success long term either.

As I’ve said before, I understand your wider frustrations on our recruitment, but I also believe we’ve got a good player on our hands here. I won’t keep going back and forth over this so as not to clog up the thread, but if you want to continue discussing it then happy for you to DM me.

Time will tell if Valle is clearly an upgrade on Taylor. Personally I have never seen him play so I have absolutely no clue what to expect. Hopefully he is an upgrade but I do have to say I hope Taylor is persuaded to stay and sign a new deal regardless as I think he has been a good player for us and deserves another contract. The other factor is this is only a loan deal and no option to buy. So lets say Valle smashes it for us this season there is every chance that he then goes off elsewhere next summer. So our whole left back situation while in a better state it seems for the here and now is still up in the air completely long term wise. Will be interesting to see who starts this weekend. I expect it to be Taylor but we will see.

 

Yeah Taylor gets an unfair rap on here sometimes. He's played some great games for us to be fair and he always gives a lot, I like the bloke.

Bottom line is, we're kicking the can down the road again.. Will we fix it for next season is the question though...

 

Agree with you completely on Taylor. He is a class guy off the field as well.

Looks about as complete a left back as we could hope for. The fact he can play rb as well is a bonus.

 

Taylor definitely gets too much criticism IMO.

He’s limited in some aspects but excels in others. He definitely has a place in the squad and not out of pity either.

 

I'm hoping it's the same as the Four Seasons singer so's we can call him Frankie.

It's reported that we're paying his wages at £1.3M for the year, which is about £27K a week, so he'll definitely be playing. If he's on that kind of money already then I doubt he'll be here for much longer than his loan period. Hope that I'm wrong, mind you.
