Brendan Rodgers Discussion Thread

I think he's been towing the party line for as long as he could but finally got fed up like the rest of us and he's said what he has now. He's just annoyed/frustrated like the rest of us.

 

It's not, though. Here are some highlights from a press conference we talked about 3 weeks ago. IMO his current comments are a very natural evolution of that, given that the deadline was a month away at that time and is now less than a week away, with our only signings since then being players who were here last spring and with our best player having left.

He's held his tongue for long enough until he couldn't. He's basically telling all the happy clappers to pipe down

 

And all the other things he said. As I say, he's been saying all of these things all along (IMO because they're all true), but the emphasis has been changing as the deadline nears. The fact that I've been reading him that way for over a month and you haven't is why this looks like a natural evolution to me and a total 180 to you.

 

I don't think that's quite fair either TBF. DD is right that he was also telling the likes of you and me that we need to understand that these things are complicated and take time. He has also been saying that for a while, DD is right about that. So I don't think Rodgers has made an * of him.

 

Rodgers has been ramping up his commentary on being discontent since July, but he still has a job to do so also has to tow the party line somewhat .
I think his comments and indirect public criticism have been first class.
Today he directly criticised the club ref leaving it too late, unnecessary stress, need to address as a club in future etc etc

He can't do much more, except....

 

Nah what you've been doing is applying your own interpretations to what he's been saying, when in reality he's been trying to keep reminding the hard of thinking that we'll have to be patient. It's there in black and white mate, your personal interpretations are only that.

 

Double D has been slavering pish since the start of the transfer window. Just like he was last summer and again in January. Rodgers today has just put to bed the argument regarding our scouting and recruitment setup. Basically confirming what we all knew. Well most of us did anyway. Rodgers hasn’t backtracked at all. He has been saying what’s needed all summer. Just some haven’t wanted to hear that.

 

None of us really know exactly what is going on or what any of the people involved. We've all been applying our interpretations of what they have been saying.

I don't know what to tell you, mate. My interpretation meant that his latest press conference seemed like a natural evolution of his previous comments and your interpretation left you pretty shocked by what looks to you like a weird 180.

I've got to tell you that I personally think that's evidence for my intepretation.

 

I totally agree with your point about Rodgers. I can't agree with the first 2 sentences about DD. I don't think they are fair on him. Over the summer, he has made some decent points that I wasn't paying enough attention to (even if we often haven't agreed).

 

My interpretation is reading/hearing exactly what he's said directly, so not an interpretation at all. Just facts.

A lot of people are scrambling to deny the fact that bringing in quality players is generally done near the end of the window. I don't think you're necessarily as stubborn as that and just say things as you see them, but some recent posters in this thread are doing gymnastics trying to justify their own doom mongering.

It's an indisputable fact that patience is required if you're going for high quality players, Rodgers knows this and has been saying it all summer. These are also indisputable facts.

If we were talking about Ange or Lenny here, I'd have to concede the point; but we're talking about Rodgers and I really don't think his communication strategy tends to work like that.

I think you're right about that and I also think we'll get the players in. I get a lot wrong, but I correctly predicted that we would spend the money on Idah and I think we are trying to spend money on players with the right age and risk profile. I think we'll get at least a couple of those over the line plus a couple of loans.

It's already a big improvement on last summer even if we sign no one else, but our structure still needs an overhaul.

 

Fair points here, it's true Rodgers is known for being somewhat 'creative' with the truth. Don't thinknit applies to him talking about patience tbh, but I get why you're picking his statements apart.

I don't think there was ever a chance of us not backing him this summer. Once we get these guys in the door that we're after, we'll go up a good level or two imo. And for all I'm sympathetic to the challenges of recruitment for a club in our position, if we're about to look at the structure and try and improve it, obviously I'll be delighted!

Dare I say it, we’re looking better than what we did in his first season here. Not an easy start by any means, but we’ve absolutely strolled through it, could’ve added another 5 goals to our overall tally easily and barely even had a shot into us at the other end.

 

Football has been a real step up from the beginning of last season. Really got that attacking edge and goals from all areas. Schmichael has really helped us in getting it quickly back out and keeping the pressure on teams.
