The Man Utd section was full. Plenty of empty blue seats were visible in the main stand.

Now he's signing for the epl watch him without 1 game get a call up to play in the main squad for his country. Even though he wasn't good enough for the Euros, he suddenly will be overnight. Fannies.

I have enjoyed watching this guy play football every single game he has played for us. Maybe not always on top form or played his best but always showcased sublime technique. I hope he goes up levels again and ends up at an elite club. And will genuinely miss seeing him in the hoops and I’m not one that gets attached to players

You’re wide of the mark then. Because I’m not bitter in the slightest. I hope he does well, which I actually said in a previous post. If a player leaves us, I really couldn’t care less who they go to. If we use the money from O’Riley to replace him, and also bring in a centre half and left back then it improves our squad overall. So there’s absolutely zero bitterness about him leaving for Brighton. I did think he would have preferred to go to a team with European football, and maybe he would have, but Atalanta weren’t prepared to meet our valuation.

None of this negates the fact that Brighton are a diddy club however. Being a well run club doesn’t change this either. They have only spent 7 out of their 123 year history in the top league, have won * all and have a small fan base. A passionate fan base? No more than any other team really.

Just how international managers look at our players/league. Think VVD was similar. Frimpong maybe to an extent

I am going to s ay something controversial. MOR is a good player, but he is more a very promising player than the extremely complete as he is getting described as. Many people talk about him as he is the best since Lubo and that we cant replace him at all. I strongly disagree here. I think Hatate for example is as good. I thought Rogic was as good. He is absolutely replaceable and i am not worried at all.

There is several midfielders i would prefer over O'Riley. McGregor as we have obviously. Scott Brown. Victor Wanyama to name a few.

Would i prefer if he stayed? Ofc.

I'm certain that would have happened immediately whether he left or not, considering who the manager that has taken over from the one that didn't pick him is.

Edit, sorry @Jacob knows, that should have been @honda I quoted there. I blame lack of sleep!

Could care less about Brighton, But Matt deserves the very best and I hope he has an amazing career wherever it takes him.

Model professional and a guy with real integrity and respect for Celtic.

Couldn't have asked for any more from him and he has delivered in every way possible in spades.

    Complete role model.

    Spot on.

Brighton beat Man Utd at the weekend. Last season they beat Arsenal and Chelsea and drew against Man City. They are probably the biggest success story in UK football this century. And as much as they beat man utd with a crowd half the size of celtic park, there would have been 10s of millions of people watching world wide. They are a good club for OReily to go to and I wish him all the best.

The "diddy club" thing is such a misplaced arrogance.

If we were run half aswell or if we even operated fractionally as how Brighton do we'd be challenging in Europe every season.. exceptionally run club with a very smart and ambitious owner... fair * to them..

In all fairness to MOR he is a player I think we can all say has came in improved contributed and represented our club very well. He’s going to a club that in all fairness from the outside looking in is a very well ran club that ultimately will take him further and be able to offer him not just only more money but a higher level of play week in week out. We have got a great return on him and I’m sure he will be a good success at Brighton. I wish him all the best.

There’s no many teams that haven’t beat Man Utd and Chelsea over the past few years to be fair.

Brighton can be a well run club and a very good (and lucrative) next step for O’Riley and still be a diddy club.

Put it this way. When O’Riley is in his early 40s abroad somewhere and someone asks him for a photo and talks to him about a great goal they remember seeing him score live, it will be a Celtic fan.

It definitely won’t be a Brighton fan.

Similarly when Van Dijk hangs up his boots and goes on holiday, chances are he will be stopped by a Liverpool fan rather than a Celtic fan. Doesn't mean celtic are a 'diddy' club because less people take an interest in us compared to Liverpool.
