We need another CB.. up in the air to whether Sheffield would accept a LTB for Trusty.

Brendan Rodgers burst into laughter when asked if he would be able to spend the £25-30million Celtic have brought in for Matt O'Riley.

The midfielder is Brighton-bound in a record-breaking deal which is likely to be announced in the coming days as the Hoops secure a remarkable mark-up on a player they bought for just £1.5m from MK Dons over two years ago. It is a deal that makes sense but on the pitch, he will leave a hole as a key man and a huge goal threat from the middle of the park

Rodgers has already confirmed he wanted to bring in someone else in the engine room regardless of O'Riley's future and would look to add TWO if he did lose the Dane. With the window closing on Friday, Celts have less than a week to replace him and also strengthen in other areas.

The Northern Irishman was quizzed on transfers after today's cruise to a 3-0 win over St Mirren. And he scoffed at the suggestion he would have all of the O'Riley fee available to spend.

When asked by BBC Scotland's Kheredine Idessane, Rodgers laughed: "You've covered Celtic for a long time, eh? So you should know that's a question you don't even need to waste your breath on. I think we'll find players and we'll bring players in hopefully."

The reporter went on to explain he didn't mean £25m on one player but perhaps spread over three, but the Hoops boss remained coy. "I don't know," he insisted. "We have to see what we can do in the market. What I do know is by next Friday we will have improved the squad. The squad has worked very, very well. We've lost some players of course but our job is to put the best team on the pitch

Kyogo has also been linked with a move away with Manchester City reportedly interested, while Reo Hatate was interesting Leicester. Asked if it was important not to lose any more key men, Rodgers said simply: "Correct."

He is being coy, he is laughing and he is frustrated, he is playing a game with the media. There must be 1 or 2 close cause he is awful certain with his comments and jovial nature of them

I feel like this is as blunt as a manager can reasonably be about not being backed by a board. He's giving the message loud and clear.

    Can hear his frustrations.

As for how many, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out.
He said the other day he wasn't gonna say one again, because the media will come at him basically if we didn't get that number in.

But January he wanted 4-5 I'm sure he said.
He got basically Idah (I'm not convinced Kuhn was what he wanted at the time).
So we have idah in, that becomes 3-4 but MOR is out the door, so it's back to 4-5.
He's also on record as saying he wanted another midfielder before MOR left, two of he does.
So that 5 is 2cm and 3 others.
Anyone and their dug can see it's a left back and left sided centre back taking the 4 out of 5 option.

Give Kuhn more credit and say he was wanted/ticked the number box in janaur. That's still the 4 you want in.

That's his number, in my view.
5 if he can add another striker/winger to the mix.

Utterly damning of our inept, tight-fisted, prehistoric * board. If we had proper people in place behind the scenes we would be able to at least hold our head up high in Europe.

Confident (I think) that we'll have 4 or 5 in by Friday.

Needs to be of excellent (by our standards) if it's only 3.

That was the most Rodgers could have slated the board without actually outwardly calling them useless…

Can't wait to see what happens. I know we're usually left raging but got a good feeling we'll get 3 or 4 in.
