The 24-year-old’s move to Celtic Park hasn’t worked so far and the Swedish centre-back is expected to depart this summer. Lagerbielke has been eyed by several clubs over the last week but is thought to be closest to joining Dutch outfit Heerenveen, who hope to capture the player on a season-long loan deal. Derby County are a surprise name to have entered the race though, and are offering to take the defender on a permanent deal, which would allow the Hoops to recoup some of the transfer fee they paid for him last August

 

I would probably be more prudent to loan him out and increase his exposure, he certainly doesn't look terrible. Good showing over the season and make some money on him.

Another man who is set for the chopping block is Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Speaking at Lennoxtown this afternoon, Rodgers admitted that the Swedish defender isn’t in his plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite this admission, the gaffer had nothing but praise for the way Lagerbielke goes about his business.

To be fair to Gustaf, for him to go and play is important”, Rodgers told CeltsAreHere.

“It’s been a difficult move for him, but I have to say he’s been absolutely brilliant.

“I recognise how difficult it has been for him, for at times not to be on the bench, and to be training here with a small group on a Saturday morning or a Sunday morning.

“He’s not been in my plan to play, but he’s been a great teammate and a real privilege to coach. He deserves an opportunity to go and play.”

These comments from Rodgers come after there was reported loan interest in Lagerbielke from Herenveen and KV Mechelen.

The 24-year-old looks likely to leave Glasgow before next Friday’s transfer deadline, but to where remains to be seen.

He isn’t short of suitors which is positive, but it is up to any club to reach an agreement with Celtic.

 

You do have to give him great credit for his professionalism. There are plenty of players out there who would be pointing fingers and doing the proverbial throwing the toys out of the pram with how things have gone for him moving to Celtic.
Hope it works out for him and he gets a good move and does well with it this week. Hopefully its a sale too and not a loan deal.

 

Lecce have made a loan with option-to-buy bid for Celtic centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday that Heerenveen were in advanced talks to sign the Sweden international on loan, but now Lecce are trying to hijack that deal.

Lagerbielke joined Celtic last summer from Elfsborg for £3m, but has failed to hold down a regular place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

 

Has to be an obligation

 

At this stage, anything is fine.

The Giallorossi club has in fact also returned to Celtic's Lagerbielke who could arrive on loan with an option to buy . Heerenveen are also on his trail but the player prefers Lecce.

 

A loan with obligation would still be a loan. I'd rather we sold him up front but right now I just want shift. They sold a centre back for 15m so they should be able to afford it though.

Aye at this point, just get rid of him, ideally a straight sell to another team but I'd take even a straight loan at this point.

Not a bad player but he doesn't exactly fit our system.

 

Feel for him. We've messed him about something awful since we signed him.

 

The sooner we get rid of him, the quicker we will get our new center half in, so hope he is away pronto

Yeah and I think as a club, that puts us in a strong position. Apparently Derby are willing to offer a permanent deal. Lecce want a loan to buy. Mechelen/Herenveen seem like straight loans.

Not against him leaving on some sort of permanent deal but I’d be happier with a loan. Would put us in a strong position if he goes to Italy/The Chanpionship, has a really strong loan and we can sell him for far more in the summer of 2025. That being said, I can see why some just want him gone and out the door.
