Celtic remain on the trail of Liverpool’s Owen Beck.

The Hoops have been in talks over signing the Welsh defender they tired to get on board in January. Beck, who impressed on loan at Dundee in the first half of last season, remains one of the main names on boss Brendan Rodgers’ wish list for the left-back slot. Liverpool could be willing to sell Beck if the price is right although a loan also remains an option for the Hoops. Rodgers is keen to provide a challenge to Greg Taylor at left-back and tried to land Beck in January. But his move was scuppered by then Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp.

Beck, instead, returned to Dens Park but his second spell with Tony Docherty’s side was wrecked by injury. However, Celtic would face competition to land Beck from English Championship sides Middlesbrough and Leeds. Celtic have expressed an interest in Ajax defender Owen Wijndal, who is also a target for Werder Bremen

Record suggesting we're still in for him.

See if he's our first choice left back, he should have been brought in the minute the Bueno deal fell through.

I really like him and he 100% displaces Taylor as the season goes on, but he's clearly not in Liverpool's plans and he won't cost more than £5 million.

The Scottish champions also want a left-back, where Liverpool’s Owen Beck remains amongst their options.

I would take him, he has shades of Robertson about him from what I've seen.

Still, you would have hoped for an immediate upgrade on Taylor. If we sign Beck, Taylor is 100% starting the 8 CL games unless injured or suspended.

Will be a massive weak link for us yet again.

Wijndal would be an immediate upgrade on Taylor and would replace him for the Champions League I would suggest.

Beck would be my No.2 option, he reminds me a bit of Aaron Hickey.

I don’t think he’s good enough, but all signs point to it being him. I wanted him in Jan but was a bit desperate then, and feel we can do a lot better now

I’m sure he’s a decent player but he’s not any better than Taylor yet. If we bring him in, with Taylor maybe moving on next year and Beck as depth, that’s not awful.. but I really would’ve liked an upgrade in the position this window

Celtic are “doing everything they can” to get a deal done for Liverpool left-back Owen Beck, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Beck, 22, is Celtic’s number one target, but a deal for the defender isn’t “cut and dry”.

Football Insider revealed (August 17) that Celtic want to sign Liverpool left-back Owen Beck permanently, but face stiff competition from several Championship clubs.

Liverpool has yet to decide whether to cash in on Beck but may be more inclined to sell the Welshman if a buyback clause is added to the deal.

Celtic are in the market for a new left-back to help provide competition for Greg Taylor who remains their only senior option in the position.

Beck is an attacking left-back with strong crossing and dribbling abilities—he provided four assists and made 57 successful crosses in 28 appearances during his loan spell at Dundee FC last season.

Liverpool have set an asking price of £3 million for the player who has only made three senior appearances for his boyhood club.

Beck is regarded as a player with huge potential by Celtic and would help lessen the burden on Taylor or provide cover should he be injured or suspended.

    "doing everything they can"

ie. Trying to punt as many players as possible so they don't need to dip into the £70m sitting in the bank bcoz that would effect the boards bonuses

if they want a buy back option then let them have it. I really don't see him getting into a position where he will ever be good enough for Liverpool to start. If that is what is holding it up.

It might be that maybe Beck doesn't think he starts over Taylor? We can only speculate but I really hope we don't end up waiting on Beck over the next week for us to scramble about on the last day

A week ago he wasn’t our first choice, but if he is now then just get it done.

The Celtic way would be us dragging our heels on this for the last few weeks because we were waiting on something else materialising; that failing and then going back to Beck and him saying that he’s already agreed to sign for Plymouth or some other * because we were too slow :58:

I'd rather Winjdal but at this point I feel relegated to just wanting LB filled. I think this would have been good in January as a loan to see how he does and then buy.

    Kinda expected this.

If true he's the no1 target there's no way it should have taken this long. Hopefully he isn't and I doubt he has been but that'll be what is peddled if he signs.

He has potential but I think we could do better. I'd rather sign him and someone else if Taylor is offski.

Issue with me is he miles ahead of someone like Anderson? He's had that bit of first team exposure aye but who's to say he couldn't step up.

Wijndal, Sosa etc these guys would walk into the UCL and not be phased. Beck would be a risk.

Likewise, thought he seemed to be much more composed than I expected for his age and thought there was a real player there before he picked up that injury..
