Same thing has already likely been happening with us telling the world we are cash rich and then bidding peanuts. Yeah likely it will get worse.

Brighton must know what Celtic will take for MOR, they wouldnt be wasting their time or Celtic's time with a pointless bid. Unfortunately this could well be the club where he ends up. So sad to see a seaside town club nicknamed the 'The seagulls' are going to take him from truly big club like Celtic. However with the grotesque sums of money that are pumped into EPL clubs from TV deals they will always have a far bigger bank balance than us and money talks. Sad to see but inevitable.

Brighton are prepared to shatter the Scottish transfer record to land Celtic star Matt O’Riley — and are confident of securing a deal to land the coveted midfielder.

Brighton are prepared to shatter the Scottish transfer record to land Celtic star Matt O’Riley — and are confident of securing a deal to land the coveted midfielder.

It was announced over the weekend that Atalanta have instead signed Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardzic from Udinese after dropping their interest in O’Riley.

Brighton have now tendered a formal bid to Celtic — and Mail Sport understands the Premier League side are prepared to top the £25m Arsenal paid for Kieran Tierney

Sources have indicated that O’Riley’s £25m price tag won’t be an issue and are confident that both clubs can now thrash out a deal.

O’Riley remains under contract until 2027 and has shown no signs of agitating for a move, with boss Brendan Rodgers speaking highly of his attitude and professionalism.

The in-demand midfielder was the subject of a failed bid from Atletico Madrid back in January and has also drawn strong interest from Southampton.

O’Riley was part of the Celtic team which beat Hibs 3-1 to reach the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals on Sunday — and Rodgers was asked about his situation as well as recruitment as a whole.

‘His mentality is phenomenal,’ said Rodgers. ‘He’s a player that’s continued to grow and you see the confidence that he’s playing the game with.

‘I still think we need another player in that position. If he was to go, we’d need two more.

‘I will need to speak to the board. There’s a lot of work going on and there’s lots that we need to do. We know where we want to strengthen and I’m pretty hopeful that we can do that.’

Should Brighton go on and clinch a deal for O’Riley, that could pave the way for Billy Gilmour to depart the Seagulls and join Napoli.

The Scotland midfielder has been identified as a key target for new Napoli boss Antonio Conte, with the Italians making an official approach last week.

Brighton had been undecided on Gilmour’s future as they adjusted to life under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

The Scot came off the bench as a substitute on Saturday as Brighton kicked off their Premier League campaign with a terrific 3-0 win away at Everton.

The writing is on the wall here, what a guy and what a professional has conducted himself excellently all summer. Best of luck to him

I think he will really flourish at Brighton if it goes through as seems likely now.

I think it is weak and pathetic letting the best player we have who are contracted untill 2027 go for 25m. Weak. A decent spell in the CL and he would go for 35 next summer

    He's definitely away.

We now seriously need to get our * arses in gear.

Pay the money for Engels, Tesseman, get Wijndal LTB and sign a CB.

Someone on KDS saying we are pushing for the Traore guy from Hammarby but don't want to pay £5m as well.

As it stands this window has been gash. They've 11 days to save it. Otherwise this season could go south. Seriously.

Toure from Hammarby is outstanding. 1 goal and 3 assists the other day. Ripping it apart

We'll win the league even if we don't sign another player and O'Riley leaves, imo. The huns look miles behind, I don't see Clement turning it around, and Rodgers has got us clicking a lot more at the moment.

With that said, if we don't properly strengthen we'll get humiliated in Europe. My ambitions for us extend further than domestic dominance. Genuinely would lose a a domestic cup or two for a deep run in the CL. It's what we as fans need the most. We need proper progression in Europe to advance as a club. For that to happen we need to start spending money and get the recruitment spot on.

Unfortunately I don't think the board matches those ambitions whatsoever. Trying to remain hopeful but just can't see us getting our act together in 11 days. A proper club would've already got most of these deals done already, if not all of them. Here we are with no new additions, it's genuinely mental.

You notice how the teams after MOR are looking to bring him in before they sell someone else as a replacement.

Meanwhile our board sitting wanking themselves silly over the prospect of the cash coming in.

Prove me wrong you greedy *.

We already knew this was happening most likely, months ago! And the board would’ve definitely known. We already turned it down once so we could keep him and he’d help us win the league and the European money that comes with it.

Now let’s see how we go about replacing him since we’ve had months to identify targets. We should’ve already have someone in or ready to come in within days of him leaving, but I bet we don’t and are only starting to look now.

Good luck to him he gave us 2 and half very good years and a huge profit. I’m not angry he’s going it’s what we do but the replacing of these top guys which is always a shambles. The club knows it’s coming but just always seem not ready for finding the next.

Don’t ever underestimate them, they done the same with us when they went for the 10. Well Oldco.

we don’t sign anyone else and Matt goes we are only a couple of injured away from a crisis ourselves.

We need to strengthen, and it’s criminal that we haven’t got things done already.

really worried for the coming year if we * this window by waiting and see.
