All this about Millwall now getting him for nothing is untrue, Celtic basically asked for similar to compensation money but it was Millwall who don’t want to stump up now and will have to pay in January when he leaves.

He doesn’t want to be with us, no worries, goodbye.

Well if he’s here for the next four and a half months; there’s no excuse for our players’ boots not to be shinier than ever before. Eight hour shifts in the boot room are good enough for him.

Being offered that much at his age shoild show cletic value him and want to progress his career.
Might be easier tonget first team football at Millwall but I doubt you'll end up much further.
I get why doak left. Offered a * ton....but also believes he can get into a top team.

If you believe in your ability. Plus get 20k a month why not feel you cam break into the team?

Look at O’Riley....could have went for money down south. Comes up here coz he believes he can do it. Now highly rated and plenty of clubs interested

Millwall or Celtic...ffs like that's even a choice for any player never mind a supposed tim.

If he thinks that's a good move he is better off not in the hoops.

See Vata going to Watford, Doak to Liverpool or Morrison and Hepburn to Bayern, Josh Adam to Man City, I can get that sort of move, also bar Doak none of the above were really mixing it in the first team.

Kelly was on the fringes and I would imagine still would be had he not made this decision. If we sign McCowan it is purely for home grown status in my opinion, we would have likely had Kelly in that spot.

If Millwall have said you are coming in as a first team player then they would just pay the money to take him now, as for £500k or so why not do that? It’s buttons in football transfers when you will have to pay £250k compensation anyway. He will be away before the end of the month I would expect.

Shame to see another young player go but I’m guessing an extra couple of grand per week turned his head.

Poorly advised, by his agent and his parents I’d say.

Really? Looking at us objectively over the last decade or so, if I was trying to get a young talented player to make it, and looking past my love for us why the * would you ever say stay here? There’s no evidence to point towards it being a good place to develop, at least ones that haven’t played here for 400 games and 10 year or so. Ralston might be the closest we have to the criteria and that is a bad example of development, and largely lucky that he eventually made it as a squad player not us bridging the gap between development and first team.

He’ll look at Hickey leaving as a youth, playing seasons for Hearts when he was 2 year younger than he is now. Knocking us back again and going to Italy and how he is now in the Premiership.

Or even the likes of McGinn not ending up at us, going to Villa and developing like he did.

Or Ben Doak who’s played for Liverpool and has a lot of hype after leaving.

And Karamoko Dembele finally starting to show how good he is, when despite all the hype and high hopes we had for him we still didn’t try to develop him.

Rocco Vata as well, though I think he’s more just a wee tadger than anything else.

Point is though, we offer nothing for these young players to be assured we’re the place that will make them the best they can as players. The ones that make it here are very rare, and honestly mostly accidental rather than planned. Calmac was, Tierney was, Ralston is… Jamesy Forrest is the only example I can think of in the last 15 years man. And even then, he got fast tracked to play after Lenny was his manager in the reserves, Mowbrays team as terrible as it was wouldn’t look at him. Lenny took over and done it because he’d already worked with him - but for that he’d have been the same.

I’m guessing that and the prospect of more realistic first team football. I went on a rant just before this post and completely forgot about the money side. More chance of playing games, more money, a league in a more respected footballing wise country with countless examples of young guys starting out in and getting massive moves.

Honestly, I don’t see what we offer guys like him. And we need to make a real effort to change that. One of my biggest annoyances man

He was playing in the first team last season, though? Like, I don’t know what these young guys expect. To start games at 18, in a squad as big as ours? You need to earn it. You don’t just get in because, what? You’re 18 and have talent? He was making nearly every single match day squad in the final half of the year and getting on in games before Holm/Bernardo at times.

Genuinely, out of all the talent we’ve lost, have any really made it? Doak is probably the most high profile and he’s getting punted and we would never have been able to keep him regardless. He was getting offered 3 times the wage we were offering him by Liverpool.

Doak honestly I don’t really count in there with the rest, soon as he was 16 we had him on the bench and the pitch.

But your first point aye thats fair, so does the 18 year old look at it and think he can push out O’Riley, Hatate or McGregor to get the first team place (unlikely) or maybe go develop somewhere else?

We do have the approach you say, but we’re probably a step further. Gave Frame a chance against Feyernood and he thrived. Would play Bernabei or Ralston LB instead after that when Taylor was unavailable. Sometimes even taking that chance you get doesn’t work at Celtic. Chances are they will develop more elsewhere than here

They probably will. I think that’s why the O’Dea loan could help us with the youths because I think we have two problems.

    1. The youth aren’t that good, let’s be honest. There are some who are definitely good enough to make the grade but the reality is that the majority are quite poor.

    2. The players who are good enough don’t seem to have a clear path to first team football. Now, it’s far too big a jump from the B team and the lowland league to our squad so very few will manage to make that jump but that’s where someone like O’Dea comes in, who sets out clear pathways to youth for first team exposure. A set of loans, with the quality of they loans and level increasing throughout the years.

its a way of the world we do it to other teams often look at Luca Connell and Liam Shaw both broke through and played games before we offered bigger wages and the chance to brake into our first team clearly Kelly has been offered alot more money and in the end if he doesn't make the grade will be back in Scotland with one of the other spl sides if he stayed with us and didn't make the grade that would also happen but with alot less money in his pocket

Daniel Kelly is set to secure his exit from Celtic in the coming hours after the Hoops accepted an offer from Millwall worth close to £400,000 plus add-ons for his early release.

The 18-year-old penned a pre-contract with the Lions earlier this week ahead of a January move to the English Championship side, and he was set to play out the rest of his contract in the Lowland League with Celtic B

But Lanarkshire Live Sport - who exclusively revealed Kelly's move south - understands Kelly is in London and he will likely undergo a medical in the next 24/48 hours.

Millwall are hoping he can be involved in their Championship clash away to Hull City on Saturday

It has been a frustrating summer for the boyhood Hoops fan after he turned down a new four-year deal with the Scottish champions, understood to be worth £5,000 a week, and he was frozen out of the first team squad by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as a result.

An amicable exit now looks to have been sealed after Millwall expected the East Kilbride ace to join in January

Lions boss Neil Harris said on Tuesday: "Dan has agreed to join the club. A deal has been agreed and he has signed. He officially joins us in January.

He is a young player that we think has got huge potential. He is a very good player. When Dan first walks into the building he is not going to be someone that everyone should expect to go straight into the team.

He is very young but everyone should take heart that they’ve seen Alfie Massey make his debut tonight and it was an outstanding performance. Dan is a box-to-box midfielder, probably an old-fashioned eight, who has great energy. I’d liken him to a young George Saville when he first came into the football club – breaks into the box and scores goals.

“He has got passion and real aggression to his play.”
