Rodgers loves a Roy of the Rovers story. Never really works out. Ricky Lambert, Balotelli, Johnny Hayes.

Folk always make this argument but if the club trained player (Welsh/Johnston) or association trained (Mccowan/Bain) aren't good enough to be anywhere near a champions league game then what's the point?

The point is having options. Players like McCowan while not deemed good enough are cheap and low risk, if we have an injusry crisis in the CL they can fill in rather than throwing a kid on who might not be ready (or they'd probably already be featuring for the 1st team in the league at least) and if they have an absolute howler it could shatter their confidence.

Plus they may actually turn out to be capable of stepping up a level with better training, coaching and players around them in which case... result.

Yes it would be great to go out and buy association trained players that would immediately improve the first team, but those are few and far between, so why not buy the best available and see how they cope when they are available?

And, let's face it, even if he doesn't cut it there's a good chance we still make money on selling him simply because it's us selling him and not Dundee, as long as we don't go daft with his wages.

Good association trained players aren't that rare. We just don't want to pay the going rate for the quality young ones.

I honestly can't think of any quality young ones that are available and would be ready to play for us straight away and not require further development, probably via a loan, which doesn't help us in the here and now.

There may well be some out there, I just can't think of any.

McCowan along with either O’Riley staying or if O’Riley goes a proper replacement would be great business I think.

Doig and Mckenna were/are 2 who would have improved our squad this summer

Controversial perhaps but Gilmour is another

I still like Josh Doig. I think he could do a job for us at LB. I'm happy if Luke McCowan is a done deal.

We will get an idea 2mo if it's a done deal. Can't see Dundee risking him getting injured by playing him v Airdrie

He is also supposed to be a life long Celtic supporter as well I think he would be a good signing for Celtic and can play on the wing to, a good passer of the ball, good at free kicks and a tough wee player , get him signed Celtic ,

Could be a Barry Robson type signing. Hope we sign him, got a good feeling.

I'd much rather give him ago than keep MJ on the books. That race has run. Multiple times.

I initially thought it would be a very underwhelming signing. But having watched a bit of him, he seems like a really useful player and for £1m he is relatively low risk.

Hes been a stand out tbf to him and if we keep signing the best in our league, we cant go wrong. I think it could be a good move

Both him and Hartley done fantastic for us, and we signed them at 30 or thereabouts.
