Not a chance he'd be the MOR replacement.

Only way I’ll be fine with us signing him is if it’s alongside Engels or someone of that ilk.

He’ll never be anything more than 5th choice midfielder, at best.

I wouldn’t be totally against him taking Holm’s place in the squad if Rodgers thinks he’s up to it. I do rate the guy. Why is this rumour growing legs?

Would make sense if we’re offloading another cm like possibly Iwata and replacing him with mccowan who’s homegrown. Both would get limited games anyway. I just hope first and foremost we’re pushing the boat out for engels

I think he's a decent wee player, to be fair. Been watching him when Dundee have been on a lot more, too. I think if we do sign him it probably spells the end of Holms chances in the squad so he will need to be loaned out.

If it means we move on Welsh and Johnston and it's for our HG quota for Europe then I'm fine with it. Especially as it's very low risk at £1m. As others have suggested, though. It needs to be done in line with another midfielder, like Engels.

    OUT
    Johnston- £3m
    Welsh- £2m
    O'Riley- £25m

    IN
    Engels- £9m
    McCowan- £1m

mentioned again in the red top rags

Celtic are chasing £10m Belgian wonderkid Arne Engels of Augsburg - a central midfielder who can play right-back and right wing - and are also eyeing a shock move for Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan. (Scottish Sun)

    He is SPFL-ready :39:
He does well in this league and is superb with dead ball, corners, free kicks etc.
Also gets torn into carrots :33:

    Hibernian
have made a third bid of £750,000 for Dundee captain Luke McCowan.

It’s understood the Dens Park club value the midfielder at around £1m and have rejected two previous bids from Hibs already in this window.

Celtic are understood to be closely monitoring the situation but are yet to make an official approach

Sky Sports News revealed earlier this month that Bolton also had a bid rejected by Dundee. They have not come back in with an improved offer.

McCowan, who has one year left on his contract at Dens Park, has scored two goals in two games already in the Scottish Premiership.

I don't know. We've had a bloated squad for a few years. Does it make sense to bring in players that are unlikely to get much game time?

This makes a lot of sense.

Holm has been here long enough to have made an impact and it is just not happening for him. If it means we get Johnson and Welsh out, and Engels in, and keep Iwata, then I am all for it.
McCowan looks a good, hard working player and would as you say, be low risk, and of course add to the HG.

Decent player - nothing more, nothing less.

I usually like the idea of signing up and coming players from the league but I’m sure he’s 26 going on 27.

We already have midfielders like Iwata and Holm who can’t get minutes and they are younger and have higher ceilings.

I do think we will spend a fair bit of a MoR replacement but I also think we should be aiming higher if we are bringing in another midfielder on top.

I think this is all about home grown status and current midfield options. In terms of foreign players and CL squad we can have 17 players and we currently have 13 players who I would expect to be in that squad outside the home grown group.

We are looking to add a left back, left centre back and a right winger and replace O’Riley if he goes so if none of them are home grown that takes us to 16 of the 17.

So in the squad currently home grown and club trained we have

    Club trained
    1. McGregor
    2. Forrest
    3. Welsh
    4. M Johnston
    5. Ralston
    6. Andersson (on fringes)
    7. Montgomery

    League trained
    8. Bain
    9. Taylor

So that would likely be our 8 players, Andersson could go on B list or same for a young keeper.

I don’t think Welsh is going anywhere, Johnston will be sold if someone will actually buy him, a lot of talk of interest but he is still here and now out with a concussion.

McCowan would go on that list and be another league trained player.

Welsh is ahead of Lagerbielke and Kobayashi. Nawrocki is injured just now and due back soon but there is chat he is available to a suitable offer. At this stage we won’t sign two centre backs before the window is shut.

January may be a different story for Welsh when Europe is nearly done or only got 2 or 3 games left likely.

I could see our CL squad being

    GK - Schmeichel, Sinisalo, Bain
LB - New, Taylor, Anderson or Montgomery
    RB - Johnston, Ralston
CB - CCV, New, Scales, Welsh
CM - McGregor, Hatate, New, Bernardo, Iwata, McCowan
    LW - Maeda, Palma
    RW - New, Kuhn, Forrest
    ST - Kyogo, Idah

I’d much rather sign guys like him with a bit of experience in the league rather than a total punt just because they are 6 years younger.

He’d be at worst a good squad player and I actually think he’d surprise a lot of people.
