Sad thing is that, as you insinuated with those dots, that's not even an exhaustive list.

Nope. We don't have a head of recruitment and ofcourse no DoF.

Hit the nail on the head with the lack of transparency point. It's a big gripe of mine at the moment. Rodgers still hasn't been asked by anyone in the media either and Lawwell jnr was sacked, when? March?

The club badly need to address it.

Is there an actual thread where the recruitment roles can be better discussed?

Lagerbielke - BR doesn't fancy him so best to move on, if or wherever he wants to go.

I mean, Rodgers literally told us at the end of his first stint with the Arzani nonsense.
It's been pretty clear from day one guy like Kwon, Tilio, Yang etc was all signed on the back of a previous idea/manager/style, so yeah as much as the PR of it is to say "manager signs off", he's not actually they one making the signings etc.

Between him and nawrocki I feel like he’s the one we have done dirty he’s made him self available every time and doing it for his national team the nawrocki one seems to just be happy to sit on the injury list and collect a wage he literally went off injured against Ayr touching his nose and not seen him since

I am confident he will go, I just hope it is a sale and not a loan. If he is turning down Malmo as a route out because he doesn’t want to go back to Sweden, it suggests he has other options. Serie A clubs have been mentioned and English Championship. He will be gone before the window shuts.

Fingers crossed it is a sale and not a loan.

Still annoying that him and the other Polish lad was signed and both don’t fit Rodgers style.

Would be great to get them both out as well, not the players fault they don’t fit the system and wish them all the best.

Is Nawrocki injured and that's why Lagerbielke hasn't gone yet? We need to get someone in as at the moment we have 3 CBs that Rodgers is willing to play and that's not really good enough.

I do imagine he will be gone, and hopefully Yuki too.

I wasn't actually trying to compare the two, to be honest with you. Ange signed us some utter belters and even though he left, I still * love the guy and want him to do well.

I just get majorly * off when individuals in here ignore the utter dross that Ange did bring in when they're slagging off Rodgers recruitment and comparing them, like I was originally replying to. Getting called "bitchy" for pointing out that Ange had some utter * signings and made some beyond bizarre decisions in defence of Rodgers.

As I said above, managers should remain part of the decision making when it comes to players but they shouldn't be responsible for going out and looking for players. We seem to utilise manager contacts and specific agencies/agents when signing our players. Of course, some will come from proper scouting and talent spotting but I genuinely believe that, this window, we are running with Rodgers.

Nothing wrong with this as long as there's plenty of other options put forward.

"this window, we are running with Rodgers."
For some yes, but there will be others put forward by the scouting crew behind the scenes.

I have no problems with managers wanting players in who they trust. For example, Schmiechel coming in would always have been something Rodgers could identify because he worked with him previously. Sinclair was one from before. That's not an issue. When you start to look at specific transfers, though and see a disappointing pattern, then it needs to be called out.

On the bolded part, you've take a small snippet of that whole sentence and posted a reply. The same reply I said in the whole sentence.

    to quote the whole sentence
"Of course, some will come from proper scouting and talent spotting but I genuinely believe that, this window, we are running with Rodgers."
You specifically wrote this window in reference to BR hence why I shortened to that comment

"When you start to look at specific transfers, though and see a disappointing pattern, then it needs to be called out."
Could you give an example of 'specific transfers' as Sinclair was 8 years ago.

    1. Lagerbielke was signed by us on the recommendation of Starfelts agent.
    2. We used Dudu Dahan like he was going out of fashion.
    3. We literally bled the market in Japan dry because Ange was manager.
    4. We purchased multiple players from the City Group because our CEOs son was running their recruitment.

    Will I go on?

Luca Connell reminded me of young Rogic from the very few minutes I saw him play under Lennon? Thought he had potential.

    1. Lagerbielke was signed by us on the recommendation of Starfelts agent.
    • Nothing wrong with an agent recommending a player, it's then up to the manager if he wants to pursue or not
    2. We used Dudu Dahan like he was going out of fashion.
    • Got a few from him but there were plenty of others signed not via him, also haven't brought anyone for a few years so don't see the relevance now.
    3. We literally bled the market in Japan dry because Ange was manager.
    • That's Ange to blame for that, not Celtic per see
    4. We purchased multiple players from the City Group because our CEOs son was running their recruitment.
    • We've got some good players from the relationship with Man City, i.e. Samaras (pre M. Lawwell), Boyata, Ntcham, Roberts, Frimpong

Not saying recruitment and scouting doesn't need a lot of work to improve, but it comes across as if you're putting the blame solely on Celtic backroom staff & board.

What are you actually asking me? Like, I'm confused what you're trying to get at. You asked me to provide examples of times where "specific transfers have disappointing patterns" and I done that, 4 times over.

I'll go as far as saying the Lagerbielke situation is one of the most embarrassing transfers I've seen in a long time. One half of your first choice centre back pairing is desperate to leave the club to move closer to his bird and instead of going through the lists of centre backs we should have documented analysis of to find the centre back that best suits our style of play, that same agent recommends a completely different sort of centre back that doesn't suit our style of play. In fact, he's the complete opposite to what we need. That agent must have been laughing his * * off. Big bung to sell Starfelt to Celta Vigo and a nice big bung getting Lagerbielke to us. No doubt he will get a lovely big bung when we sell him in the next year or so. It's completely amateurish. Is the recommendation itself bad? Not particularly. Agents recommend players to clubs all the time. What you do is take a look at him, build some analysis and decide whether or not he suits the style of play, whether the deal will work, whether it's affordable. All the parameters needed in a transfer. There was absolutely no scouting done on Lagerbielke because if there was, he wouldn't have been signed.

Celtic are responsible for the recruitment team. The Celtic board decide what footballing structure we have in place. Every club have scouts but a team like Celtic should have the very best scouts available, given we work within a restricted financial bubble. I think we are the only team in the Champions League who do NOT have a Director of Football or a Sporting Director. That's a huge * problem. Again, that goes back to who is responsible for the structure within the footballing department of the club. The Celtic board.

So, yes. There may be instances where Rodgers says 'yes' to Lagerbielke and Ange bleeds Japan dry. Ange had a view/access to a niche, untapped market in Japan and he utilised that well. That's no problem, especially if he's trusts football players to come in and make a difference and for the most part, the Japanese market worked well for us. The problem is that your scouting has become so * bad that you're continually relying on contacts in the same areas to get you out of problems when transfers don't go through.

No one is suggesting that an agent can't recommend a player. That happens in football relentlessly. Again, in isolation, it's totally fine. However, when you're continually turning to specific agents or specific clubs/groups, like the City Group, it's lazy scouting/recruitment. A football club as big as ours should have a far better footballing department than we currently do.

So yes, I am blaming the board in certain areas like this because they are responsible for the football structure, or the lack of structure in this particular case. Are they responsible for specific players signing? Not directly but they have to take their fair share of the blame. As does Rodgers and the recruitment team, itself.

    @Celtic_Daft1888

The last person we got via the City Group was Ange and don't expect many complaining about him, also last player was Frimpong nearly 5 years ago and again worked out very good for us.

I would say that Ange having more say could have been a negative in regards to the focus on Asia, but then so many posters complain about the lack of input the manager has on signings. Worked out well with Kyogo, Hatate, Maeda, and others not so good. Seems pretty well accepted that it was Ange that pushed for Bernabéi when Celtic recruitment were saying it was a bad choice so again that would be a hard sell to say it was the boards fault which many do.

People complain that BR didn't have enough input when he came back last season, but then we've others complaining that it was via BR regarding Schmeichel & Idah, so what they're good signings for us.

I don't get the jumping up and down by so many about our signing failures as there's just as many successes. Being a supporter we're more focused on our team and tend to complain more about failures. There's failures at all Clubs but these seem to be skirted over and only the successes highlighted to show how 'Celtic' are doing so bad.

I did say in my previous post "Not saying recruitment and scouting doesn't need a lot of work to improve" so recognise that improvements need made, but I try and look at the glass being half full, and not being half empty (same water in the glass but one is a positive and the other a negative).

I feel we're going to have a far better window this season compared to the last few that were disappointing, and same with Europe I'm looking forward to the new UCL format and feel it will work in our benefit.
