€28m is about £24m, I just can’t see us accepting anything lower than our record fee.

    Can't replace him with a £1.5m signing.

Before some smart * says that's what O'Riley cost us, he isn't the same player from a few years ago.

We make players like O'Riley but we'll be considerably weaker without him for a few seasons at the least

Would depend on the sell-on you'd think, if we expect him to get another big move in a few years breaking our record up front might not really matter.

Agree with your first point. In the case of O’Riley we aren’t going to replace him directly as to us he is genuinely a £25m player minimum. To contribute so many goals and assists we aren’t paying to bring someone in doing that.

What selling him should do is allow us to strengthen 2 or 3 other areas of the team and get an adequate quality centre midfielder in alongside that so as a team overall we are stronger.

If we got £25m in we don’t need anymore cash in the bank we should be spending all that on 4 players.

Hope the low offers keep coming, in the end would love him to stay.
If I thought we'd spend the vast majority of the cash on new, high quality talent, I'd likely feel differently - but that won't happen.

Surprised if he'd view Southampton as a good move.

Reckon they'll go right back down. Reckon that's bollocks.

Within 2 seasons whoever gets him will be selling him for over £60m.

Sick of this happening to us.

Surely the player would be smarter than this. He's a lot better than Southampton and hopefully his agent is letting him know that too.

£10m to a diddy league gets you a player a few years older who is more or less where O'Riley is today but without the potential ceiling. The idea that his current contribution to the squad can't be replaced is incorrect. It won't be replaced because we're cheap, but not because the outlay would be £25m.

He isn't. If a top English club bought him, he'd warm likely the bench. That's the truth of the matter. He's 23 and still has to develop to be at that top level. Mid-table EPL is a good level for him.

Even if he stayed at the club for another two years, we're still not receiving a £40m bid from anyone. We as a market don't have that kind of pull. There's a price teams are willing to pay for players from Scotland and you don't double that overnight, it increases in increments. If we get anywhere near £30m either now or in the future, we're doing very well.

Southampton have a good history of developing players...as do Brighton recently who are a very well run club punching well above their weight

I don't think MOR staying is an option now, not a chance the Board will be turning down the money on the table.

The big worry as always is we won't see the money being re-invested in the team.

Who says England needs to be his next destination though?

Southampton aren't mid-table EPL level either. They're a newly-promoted side whose goal will be to consolidate their place in the division next season.

For me, he has the most potential out of all our big sales since VVD.

Even £30m and a 25% sell on and I’d still consider it being us getting the raw deal. He could literally walk into any team and have an impact right now, he’s that good.

He lacks the athleticism to be genuine top tier player .

Yeah I think so too. I'm sure I read somewhere that he had back surgery at one point. Perhaps this has had a lasting effect. Just imagine the potential he may have had if this is the case. I still think that he's a top player and will excel. Perhaps not to the giddy heights
