Feeling the same. Grew up in the 90's as well so I've seen worse.

Thing with this situation unlike the 90's is we have the cash but refusing to do anything with it.

People do understand it. Well to an extent. I don’t for a second think 99.9% would choose relegation fodder or teams fighting relegation over us if we were offering reasonable wages in this day and age.

We were said to be interested a month ago and quite evidently no bid was made or we’d 100% have heard about it.

If we had bid, and so had Brentford, then fine. If he chooses them I get it. But it seems like we haven’t even bothered making an attempt.

Headline should be Brentford and Celtic have bid £7M, if we then don't get it done - fine, move on.

Celtic don’t carry out our transfer business through the media, so the headlines are irrelevant.

 

We aint competing with Brentford on price or wages, CL is our pull but most players will take EPL over that. It’s market we cannot compete in and exactly why we need to be looking in other leagues with an extensive scouting network that is non existent.

We are in such a good position currently that we are once again sitting in neutral isntead of pushing to the next level. The exact reason why Rodgers left last time and why Ange only stayed 2 seasons.

Respectfully, I didn't agree with your answer or conclusion but did think you made a valid point on EPL v SPL, so the partial quote.

I also struggle to agree that all our transfer business is so top secret it rarely makes the media.
Much of every other clubs transfer links make media, why should we be so different?
In my view, a more realistic reality is that we are simply very, very limited in our transfer activity.

If BR really wants this player, we should be all over it for anything south of £10M - even if we get a knock back.

Fair enough mate. I’d still point to the rest of my initial comment as being at least very close to the answer here though.

I think generally clubs down south have a far closer relationship with Sky Sports than we have with any sort of media tbh. It’s all part of the hype train down there and you see that with how much they leak through Sky who in turn make such a big deal out of deadline day and the EPL generally.

We very rarely leak things to media (and when we do it tends to be through McGowan and not that something positive is imminent). When there’s leaks on genuine Celtic links then you can bet that it’s come from either the player’s side or the selling club to try and put pressure on or garner other interest. I wouldn’t actually be totally shocked if that’s the case here either, to try and squeeze and extra few thousand in wages out of negotiations.

I agree with you. If O’Shea is Rodgers man, we should be as active as possible in making that happen. I just don’t agree with your assertion that we haven’t tried.

Did anybody honestly think this was a goer? A guy playing in the EPL last season who has offers from other EPL teams for this year and whose club have £100M+ from last season and the parachute payments for the next few years. Even without PL holding the purse strings this was unlikely to happen.

Is there anything to suggest we have made an official bid? Or are you speculating that’s what happened regarding money being offered?

Because to me if we had a bid accepted and terms offered it would have been reported more.

Transfers do happen as I’ve suggested also, clubs will make direct contact with agents, yes but in other terms clubs can do direct deals with clubs like the way we have done with Benfica.

Hence we have asked them about players available then spoke to the player direct. So it happens both ways.
