Finished Ken Bruen's In The Galway Silence. I just love his witty dialogue and this one is right up there classic Irish noir at its best from his Jack Taylor series.

I am a big fan of Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor books for sure. Have liked every one of them that I have read. I have not read his other books though. I think Bust is a collaboration with another writer, is that maybe why your not finding it as good? Is it worth buying even so?

Reading Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard at the moment. I love Jackie Brown which is based on it, and the book is great too. Also read The Switch before this one which has some of the same characters.

Ordell (played by Samuel L.Jackson) in the film is a class character.

Read Skagboys recently too, the prequel to Trainspotting. Took me a while to get into it but ended up loving it, and it has one of the best endings I’ve read.

Aye there’s some good bits in, although one of the chapter headings was a quote from another Bruen book, set in New York and still not finished it although I started it before the Jack Taylor I raced through

the amount of films made from Leonard books is staggering and all good, even loved his westerns, ‘Hombre’ with paul Newman was another classic

I have read Skagboys as well and enjoyed it. Have you read The Blade Artist or Dead Man's Trousers? If you haven't I think you would probably enjoy them. More focused on Begbie's character and a good read.

No, Skagboys was actually my first Irvine Welsh book but I’ve watched the Trainspotting films and plan on reading more. I keep threatening to read one of Ken Bruen’s books too. Which one would you say would be best to start with?

Just finishing Don Winslow’s Savages at the moment. A decent read.

Reading The Cartel by Don Winslow, really liking it so far. Pretty meaty by my standards so was giving myself about 6 weeks to finish it but finding it so gripping I should manage well before that.

Nah man, just seen it in a charity shop and it looked good. Was wondering if I should have been reading his books in order when I saw the other titles listed, guessing I should have?

Yeah The Cartel is number 2 of a trilogy, and The Power of the Dog is number 1.

I’ve only read The Power of the Dog myself, but I had a quick google and seemingly it’s fine to read The Cartel without reading it, but reading it would probably improve the experience.

The Power of the Dog is * brilliant btw. I’d recommend reading it for that fact alone.

Ah, that's a bit annoying but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it. Defo think I'll read more of his stuff judging by how this is going so far. Might need something light as a palate cleanser in between though!

Ah lucky you so. Lots to look forward to then when you read Trainspotting, * etc. Personally I really enjoyed them all. As for Ken Bruen there is a little theme in terms of whats happening in the main character Jack Taylor's life so I have been reading them in order. The first one being I believe The Guards.

Just raced through Ken Bruens, ‘Headstones’ and I mean raced, started Friday afternoon and finished it at 4am this morning, it’s only the second Jack Taylor book I’ve read so lots to go at, mind his books are £7-9 each for second hand paperbacks which is just wrong, suppose they’re cheaper in Ireland. I love his writing with the Taylor series, it’s so much more loose and loads of humour and casual violence, (man loves his hurley)

Mate I tend to post books that I’ve just started reading. I’m about hundred pages in and loving it. Story set in the US. It’s worth reading 100% if you can get a hold of.
