    100%.

The lack of recruitment strategy is getting more and more evident by the day and it should worry supporters.

Totally! We have had plenty of cash in the bank and certainty of Champions lg. there is absolutely no excuse for this shambles. We should and could have had our business done before the team started up again. The tail end of the market should have been reactionary with regards to leavings or injuries. But no we still have all the do!

What baffles me is that during all this time we still haven’t managed to offload any of the players we clearly don’t want. Why has Lagerbielke not gone yet if an Italian team wanted him in January?

Why hasn’t Kobayashi been offloaded to a team in J/K league even on loan?

Why hasn’t Mikey Johnston been sold yet to any championship team after a pretty decent showing for 6 months at West Brom?

Are we after unrealistic transfer fees for these players or are we simply unable to both try and sign players while at the same time trying to offload players.

Starting to get very worrying because time it ticking by and we have seen this movie a hundred times already. I also don’t think we are that far ahead of the Huns as it stands to be comfortable that a few injuries could cause us some serious problems with no quality additions.

    A few worrying possibilities....
    • We want too much for outgoings and pay way too little for incoming (fee and wages)
    • We only do one deal at a time
    • We wait and wait and wait until we have a clear run on a signing, at a bargain price - which rarely happens
    • We won't/are hesitant to buy until we know what's going out
Finally, there is no overall strategy to any of the above - it's a shambles

We’re hopeless at shifting players. Have been for years.

If we're trying to recruit in a market Rodgers knows well.. most players will be out of our reach

A big part of that though is how poor our recruitment is in the first place.

We have no difficulty in selling our top players, the issue is we sign players (like Kobayashi, Tillio, Kwon) with little prospect of selling on. Most of the time those players come in on wages that other clubs at their level wouldn’t pay as well, so we’re stuck with them or face paying them off.

It’s a vicious cycle that will only be corrected when we sort out our recruitment and stop filling our squad with mediocrity.

Grand old team to play for
Blowing them out the water would cost serious money. Staying comfortably ahead costs less - until you f*** it up by appointing Lennon for a second full time stint, and letting the zombies win the league.

    What is our wage cap?

If we actually have one I have to assume it is below £50k a week and whilst this not an excuse for board, I feel this can sometimes help us understand why it is challenging for Scottish teams, not just us. To sign players.

Because we've easily got the funds to sign 5 players around the £7mill mark in this window alone.

But if say those 5 players all demand wages of £45k a week... that is a commitment of £11.7mill each year they stay at the club.

And over time with the lack of money domestically, that type of escalating wage bill can become a serious problem and not even the CL money could help plug that gap over time

I don't even think it's the money itself that's the biggest issue, it's the league we're in, once you get to players that we'd value at 7/8/9/10m+ and pay the wages that match, it's not like they're going to be some gem we've unearthed and aren't already on other teams radars, and if other teams are able to match the money then the quality of league you're actually going to becomes a major factor, when the money's equal how many players are really going to pick us/scotland over mid level teams in england, spain germany etc. the overall quality of our league is a huge detriment to us attracting higher level players, and I don't think a handful of european games offsets that for most.

If you were to take all the wages of the dross we sign, it probably equates to roughly the same over. Take last summer. Not one player we signed last summer is starting currently. There was 8 on permanent deals. So instead of signing 8 players, bring in 4 quality players and try and mix it with youth of our own. We didn’t need 9 players. We needed quality, not quantity.

Would we no have more than Schmeichel in if it was down to Rodgers contacts?

Surely we'd have had some of his men in by now?

    I don't buy that..

Pay the money, the players will come. It’s the fact we are still using a transfer model from two decades ago that is the biggest detriment to getting players here.

Take out Siegrist, McCarthy, Kobayashi and Bernabei's wages and we could offer a player £40kp/w
Sell Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and combine it with Oh's wage and we have another player at £34kp/w

I can see why we're needing to offload players first before bringing better quality in if the screenshot here is any way accurate, but as stated above the poor recruitment has led us to be in this position in the first place. Until we try and fix the recruitment department we will likely make the same mistakes over and again.

Christ, that really drives home how much we need to shift some of the deadwood. Siegrist, McCarthy, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki and Kobayashi alone amount to around £50k per week. Madness.

Siegrist on £15k, if true, is a disgrace. He was never going to be first choice goalie here ffs.
