It's hard to get to excited by that yesterday when you know it was driven by the midfield and that O'Riley will probably be away before the window shuts and that Hatate might be too.

Sadly I still think it is when he goes this window. He is a class act and we better have some players lined up to come in as they are big boots to fill.

I don't know the answer to that for certain, but my guess would be that the majority of players that cost £10m have a higher wage expectation than what appears to be our cap. And the money folks will be concerned about the knock on effects of that on the overall wage bill when inevitably existing players start complaining about someone else getting paid more. So bringing in (numbers picked at random) 6 players on £10k per week will be far preferable to them than 1 player on £60k per week as you don't risk having to increase the existing wages as well.

It's part of the reason I think we need a DoF. Having a CEO involved in transfer dealings is bad from a team perspective as first and foremost they have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders. Which is why I think we would be better served by having the CEO set a transfer/wage budget and then it is up to the DOF and manager how best to spend it. But that's in an ideal world so won't happen while Desmond is pulling the strings I don't think.

Scamacca for Atlanta done his ACL last night and is out for the season, so their attention and funds will probably shift to a striker

Brighton are in talks with Celtic over a deal for Matt O'Riley.

They are among a number of clubs keen to sign the midfielder this summer.

Atalanta have already had several bids turned down.

Sky Sports News also reported over the weekend that he is among a number of options being considered by Chelsea to replace Conor Gallagher, should he complete his proposed move to Atletico Madrid.

Bidding war plz and thank you.

If he goes we want as much dough as possible and we better have a good list of quality replacements sitting waiting to push the button on.

Chelsea do not hold an interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley - despite suggestions he is being targeted to replace Conor Gallagher, writes Ryan Taylor.

Gallagher is sent to join Atletico Madrid after agreeing personal terms with the club on Sunday.

Atalanta have seen three formal bids rejected for Denmark international, who struck 19 goals and registered 18 assists in all competitions last season.

Southampton boss Russell Martin is also keen on a reunion with his former MK Dons player.

O'Riley featured in Celtic's 4-0 opening day SPFL demolition of Kilmarnock at the weekend

If we do end up losing MOR he's a player we really should not and cannot * around with when replacing.

Would like to hope he would stay here over Brighton but totally get the money on offer for him.

Don’t really get the positivity around a bidding war as a fan of the club … say we actually get 30million for Matt, can any of us confidently say we would even spend half of that?

We’re sat on an absolute fortune as it stands and still haven’t pulled the trigger on a few priority positions … can’t really get excited about us making even more money when we hardly ever spend more than 4 million for a player.

I'm sure he would go to Brighton if given the opportunity. They are a mid table Premier league team with modern ownership & have become a stepping stone for players. Brighton interest could possibly stimulate other Premier league to get involved & get the price up.

Brighton have opened negotiations with Celtic over a fee for midfielder Matt O’Riley.

Atalanta and Southampton have already had bids rejected for the 23-year-old Denmark international this summer.

Now Premier League Brighton - currently in talks with Napoli over a move to Serie A for Billy Gilmour - are the latest club to approach Celtic over a price.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has already warned potential suitors that the Scottish champions won’t sell on the cheap, with the Parkhead club keen to execute a package close to £25million.

Atletico Madrid had an £18m offer rejected to January and have now turned their attentions to a £34m move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallaghe

O’Riley has since been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for the England international.

O’Riley played in Celtic’s 4-0 win over Kilmarnock as Rodgers’s side opened their defence of the Premiership title on Sunday.

A £1.5m signing from Fulham, the midfielder has refused to rock the boat in search of a move, despite Rodgers warning clubs to ‘value the player, not the league.’

Rodgers said: ‘Obviously there are riches in other leagues much greater than ours that allows players to go and improve their conditions for their life, we all understand that.

‘What’s important for me is, if a player does leave her,e they pay the value for the player and that isn’t something that always happens

No player will leave here unless it’s for the right valuation and, at this moment in time, there’s been no team that’s been anywhere near that

Brighton in same bracket as Southampton for me. He should be skipping the mid table teams and going top 5

Totally agree. I would love for him to stay one more season or at least until January. But if he does leave no way should it be for anything less then a club record fee so for sure north of 25m and 30m looks fair to me. I do also have to say that the attitude O'Riley has shown given all the speculation is first class. Everything about his performance yesterday and his attitude was superb and that has been the case throughout pre-season as well.
